    Rike Hits First HR

    Brian hit his first professional HR against the Eugene Emeralds.......and I missed it. We had planned to go to the game but had another committment that made us late. Saw him after the game and he was excited, even though the team lost 12-4. The Dust-Devils are playing in Eugene thru Thursday, and we plan to go every night.     What else would we expect? This guy is good. I hope he gets the right breaks and continues to improve, this guy could definitely get his shot. The guy can flat out rake.

    Brian didn't play last night. His first day off after playing 10 straight days. He did coach 1st base since the head coach got tossed before the game started. It was a carry-over from the night before. Refs are pretty marginal and they only have two. Dust-Devils won 3-2 in a pretty good game.

    Will see him tonight after the game and say hello for everyone and B.B.

    Rike has 10 hits, 2 SB, 1 HR, while batting over .300. That is a nice start.

    Didn't get to talk much last night, the game went a little long. Not in innings, but the Emeralds scored 10 runs. Brian was 1 for 2 and walked twice (I think). Also stole a base. The out was the hardest ball hit all night, but it was straight at the right fielder. A little air under it, and it would still be climbing.

    A few fans were looking at us a little funny when Connie was yelling so loud for the Dust-Devils, but after we explained we were related to him, they would cheer for him everytime he came up to bat. One of them told us that the stadium in Eugene was something like the 8th oldest Milb staduim in the country.

    After the game, they will drive all night to Yakama, WA., and play again tomorrow night. Oh to be young again.

    Last night Brian was 2 for 4. He walked his first time up he walked and the nest batter hit a double off the left field wall. Brian made it easily to third, but the coach told him to go home. The throw was good from the outfield and the catcher had the ball when Brian was still 10 feet from the plate. He was tagged out but the catcher did a back roll over home plate. I think he felt better about that than the two singles he hit.

    He's hitting the ball well, even on the long outs he makes. I wouldn't be supprised if he is the MVP by the end of the season. The Dust-Devils have some good players and a few good pitchers, but they need lots of help in the Bullpen.

    Continuing their home-field domination of their rivals to the North, the Tri-City Dust Devils pounded out thirteen hits en route to their fourth straight win 10-6 over the Vancouver Canadians. Coupled with the Windermere Real Estate post-game fireworks show and a few fireworks during the game that led to three Vancouver ejections, there was no shortage of entertainment in Pasco, WA Saturday night. Brian Rike was a perfect 4 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored to raise his season batting average to .312 and earned Saturday's Dust Devils Dynamic Performer honors. Helder Velazquez, Phillip Cuadrado and Brian Lapin also turned in multi-hit games with two apiece.
