This team will not win or lose due to one player being in or out of the line up. If player "A" can't go player "B" can step in, if either of them cant go; Player "C" can roll. If PT needs to move to CF; Bohannan, Alexander, JJ or Cobb will do the job elsewhere.
The entire team at the fall workouts have that mentality. No one person is indispensable. Oregon State should have taught all college baseball (teams and fans) that over the last two years. Ellsberry/Perdora (from the Red Sox) are reminding us of that every day we see a playoff or world series game.
You won't see a drop off in defense or offense interchanging any of these players on the field. I believe the front part of the season is where Sim will demonstrate player interchangeability, then he can focus in on what is important for the team......pitching.
On the mound is a different story, there are never enough arms. That is where everyone needs to step up. If one person is unable to produce on the mound, we will need to dig deep. The frosh pitchers that have been brought in, look good. We need more. The JC ranks may need to support us over the next two years as we build a pipeline to meet the challenges of the new rules/schedule.
Pitchers need their rest for success. There are reasons why starters need the 4 days of rest between starts. It's not only for the body, its the mind. If our pitchers focus on a routine and understand what their duties are for the team and we don't clutter their minds with opposing demands (getting batters out vs. not getting out) we will be in better shape moving forward. We need starters to get into the 6,7, and 8th inning. We need four guys that can do that.
I'm hearing Mosley looks real good; movement and strikes. Luke is lighting up the radar gun. Knotts, Bradshaw and C Jones and getting lots of outs. I'm hoping this is JJ's dominate year on the mound.
So I imagine the teams are set for this weekend. Who's has the inside track. Lets hear who's on what team and lets make some predictions. Seniors picked: Bunting, Lorio, Knotts, Lassier, Cobb, Alsup and Goulder. I'm guessing Luke was the first pick. He projected to be the 14th college player selected in the MLB draft right now. I'd think he's number one in La Tech.
