    Congressman Joe D. Waggonner

Mr. Joe passed away this morning in Shreveport; he was 89.

I wish the Dawgs could have won one for the Congressman...I'll have a lot of good memories of many past football seasons, Mr. Joe, and Arlis.

If there's a fountain Coke in Heaven, he's already found it!

P.S.-For all you youngsters, there would be no Wyly Tower or Aillet Stadium without Mr. Joe.

Mr. Joe was a great man. Shreveport owes him so much.

Every time I met him (usually at a Rotary Club, QB club or a game), he always seemed really interested in me and my future plans. It may have been the trained politician in him, but he was one of those guys who make you feel good when you meet them.

He knew how to get things done and many may not realize how influential he may have been in getting the mindset set changed in Wiley Tower the last 12 months -

Unfortunately, I don't see anyone filling his shoes anytime soon -

    Very influential statesman.
Too bad he out-kicked his coverage . . . the young folks at the AP can't spell his name right.

Mr. Joe and my grandmother graduated high school together in 1935. I've known him almost all my life and we have lost a GREAT ONE.

Until the day he died he did many great things for Shreveport/Bossier and for La. Tech.
