    Bump.
Any progress being made on this project? It sure would be nice to have it ready for national TV at the Mississippi State game.

3 torches have been fabricated, and will be presented Friday May 2, at the Sr. Design conference. The traditions committee was shown the torches today. The torches are amazing. The olympics would be proud to have them.

Thank you for the update. This could turn into a great tradition and if it works out I cannot wait to see it. It will definitely add to the atmosphere. I hope all the students that do not attend the games see this and get interested and go to the game. If I were on campus and saw this happening it would spark my interest to go see what it is all about. There are a lot of possibilities with this plan like others have mentioned.

Someone needs to be sure the Orientation Leaders this summer say something about it! Catch the students from the beginning!

I doubt the column can be built by the fall, but the torches are done. Traditions committee meets on the 8th.... hoping to have SOMETHING for the fall

How big are these column(s)??? I mean a nice 10 ft brick column with a gas line up the middle shouldn't take 3 months to make, hell 3 weeks is a long time.

They are supposed to be pretty big. But the other thing is the location of the hill. There may be possible additions to the field house in the near future that would interfere with the column placement. So we also have to work with the guy in charge of that design to make sure it fits. You don't want to have them built and then torn down a year latter. I'm confident we will have something for the fall though. Have a better idea on the 8th.

The team captain will have to climb it like King Kong with the torch clamped between his teeth, till he reaches the top then holds on by one hand while stretching the torch to the bowl with the other.

In that case, the gorilla should be the one lighting the column.

Can I just say that this is quite possibly one of the coolest and most amazing ideas I've heard? We should replace the Logo in the plaza with a brazier or torch that is always going. With, of course, some fancy plaque that has the bulldog legend.

How about 12 feet tall and calling them the "Blonde Bomber's Burners" or "Bradshaw's Burners".

    Re: Tradition

The meeting today was a presentation of the torch project, which looked amazing. The engineers did an amazing job. We also talked about how to store them when they're not in use. We want to place them somewhere on campus so that they can be seen and have the story to go along with it. The traditions committee is going to meet again next Thursday to talk about what we are going to do next and over the summer. The engineers will be sending some pictures and I'm gonna try to get some taken over at the field next week. will post them here when I get them.
