Deer season opens tomorrow here in Texas but won't be going. Did go ahead and get my shooting in though.
Had a monster 10 jump the string during bow season. Zero with the muzzleloader. 2 with the rifle so far.
Yes, sir, that is correct. What most folks don't realize is that the cost of my hunt is less than the cost of an elk hunt here in the states. The resulting taxidermy bill is higher, obviously, but the difference is 8 to 10 animals on the wall vs. a single animal. It was well worth the cost and preparation. 10 days, 11 animals, the dark continent. It was awesome. Trying to go back next year.
Here's some other pics.
What does warthog taste like? Oh, I know...probably tastes just like Zebra, which happens to taste like chicken.
Snuck out of work early Friday, got in the stand around 4:45, wife calls around 5:15 to inform me one of our weenie dogs escaped. 5:50- initiate search and rescue of said weenie dog in South Highlands. Recovered weenie dog around 6:45. Beat weenie dog aroung 6:46. Oh well..some days are better for hunting than others. I've always dreamed of hunting Africa but will have to settle for Elm Grove and Monroe rice fields for now. Beautiful pics of some truly awesome animals. I'm jealous.

Market,
Is therepublic land that you hunt in N. La. or do you have a lease? Also how much to leases go for in North La. right now? Curious if it's much different than North or Central Texas.
I'm fortunate in that the land I hunt is a "brother-in-law" type deal and is private. I can duck hunt on it (flooded timber)and deer hunt on it. I pay around $250 a year and an additional bit for the insurance that I carry on the property...not including the amount of time and money spent on food plots, etc. It is a little over 500 acres and I hunt the property with my dad and two other fellows but only three of us duck hunt in addition to the deer hunting. My dad has a rice field blind in Monroe and I think he usually pays around $2,500 a year but it is a cherry spot. I used to duck hunt on Toledo Bend, Darbonne, and Clear Lake and had some really good duck hunts in the past.

my cousin had a pretty amazing hunt this morning. saw something at first light coming down the log road near the creek. said at first he thought it was a deer. then realized the movement was like a bobcat or something. Said the animal eventually moved to within 40 yards of him and sat down. Said he then raised his nose up in the air as if winding something. said he then got up and stood broad side to him said he was MUCH bigger than a bobcat and was infact a cougar. said he was fawn colored with a white muzzle and a black tip on his tail. not like the B.S. "black panthers" taht everyone thinks they see. Anyway, i have a stand within a couple hundred yards of where he was and went back this evening. Seems as though my dad forgot to share that little tid'bit of info that he had found out from my cousin this morning. Ole Chou would have hunted somewhere else this evening or come out a LOT EARLIER than he did. Lord, now the rest of the season im gonna here footsteps behind me going in before daylight and coming out after dark.
fyi, my cousin doesnt drink or do drugs :icon_wink:
If you hear a woman screaming RUN!!!!
A buddy of mine keeps an motion sensor camera near his stand in Graham. (North of Weatherford, NW of Ft. Worth) and it snaps a picture when there is movement. He caught a picture of a monster cougar. Wonder how eager he is to get back to that stand now?
I dont think they stay in the area, more than anything, from what i've heard they're just migrating. I have heard the woman screaming thing back SEVERAL years ago. we were out skinning squirrels right at dark when it started and we stopped what we were doing. it started on our side of the road less than a quarter, crossed the road and then back to the east. that sound will give your goose bumps goose bumps.
