Well golley.. we certainly can't make any money in Ruston. What do you want me to do?? Get excited, expect a sell-out and actually work?? PFFT... yea right.
THE DAMN JOakes IS STILL ON US!! :bigcry::bigcry:
Quote from article: "Louisiana Tech is a pretty good name and that isn't a big trip," Keating told the newspaper. "Believe it or not, I was shocked they said we would rather play a guarantee game, asking how much could you give us, rather than play a home-and-home. We had to make a big decision to even say we are willing to go home-and-home with them."
AND any pride we had left just flew out the second story window.
He told Watson that the Kansas wanted the game in here to be played on 9/12/09 and that he couldn't cancel the ATM game already scheduled on that day. Does Kansas not have some flexability with the Big12 as to when they can schedule their non conference games? There is nothing avialable on the Kansas sites that gives those pre-set NC dates. This spin is a little different than the spin he realeased to the local folks yesterday.
All schools have flexibility in their schedules. This boils down to laziness on our administrations part. Schools schedules are changed on a routine basis up until the season starts. This was a "gem" of a deal that we just threw in the garbage. What really sucks is that they came knocking on our door to give it to us.
Do you think Watson asked the right questions? Based on his history of defending Joakes, I'd bet against it. He surely gave Joakes the benefit of the doubt in this article. The Joakes version goes something like this...
Kansas: We have an open date in '09 and wondered if Tech would be interested in a home and home with us.
Joakes: What date were you thinking in '09?
Kansas: We have an opening 9/12/09.
Joakes: Sorry, we already have a game scheduled with ATM in Sheveport that day. How about we just come to Kansas for a guarantee game instead? How much will you pay?
BTW, we do have two other home dates available in '09 that don't appear on future schedules. So Far the only home games scheduled are ATM and the same WAC teams that we have faced in '07.
How obvious is it that Oakes floated one excuse yesterday and decided to change his excuse today? Neither one of them is worth anything. He's really gotten lazy on his excuses. Yeah, it's real common practice to demand a certain date when you approach a team with an offer...please...
Just when you think we can't get anymore small-time...

That dog don't hunt. ULM signed the deal with KU for future years. If JOakes had ANY kind of head on his shoulders and IF 2009 was out because of schedule conflicts (which I don't buy EITHER), then they could have looked to future years.
JOakes wanted the money pure and simple. He would rather whore our team out then do any work to get those funds from supporters. I have no doubt that more money could be raised with some effort than we will net from going to Kansas.

It is kind of confusing. First he said we can't play it because it would conflict with a home game, and then he said:
"We aren't in a position financially to have seven home games and no guarantee games, which is what the Kansas series would have meant," Oakes said. This makes it sound like it would be in addition to the A&M game.
Which is it?
Jordan Mills on choosing Tech:
“It’s a great experience seeing them play. It was a good atmosphere. The fans stood up the whole game and never sat down. They have a great fan base.”
Then why are we FBS?"We aren't in a position financially to have seven home games and no guarantee games, which is what the Kansas series would have meant," Oakes said.
Also, home many times have we delayed return games or had home games with Cal, LSU, TAMU, Clemson moved to accomodate something else???
I think that is EXACTLY the way it went. no negotiation, just "nope, cant do it, (spreads legs) how much would you give me for this?"
seems to me that when "they" talked to fox, had it been the same date, they would have said the same date. instead, as reported by fox, it was having to pay two bcs teams the same YEAR. lies to cover lies.
Fubar.....big time!!!
