I got the news later than most about this Kansas fiasco.
We are the diehards. We usually stand up and make things happen.
What can we do? When can we do it?

Form a well-funded booster club that is capable of influencing decision-making.

the only thing you can do is withhold funds. That is what we did at FSU to get changes to our coaching staff. we wrote letters to the editor, called in to radio shows, held up huge banners at the games. nothing worked until the booster club saw a large drop in donations. at that point they did what the needed to to get rid of Jeff Bowden.
stop donating to Champs. stop giving money to the athletic department. stop giving money to the athletic programs. i know that you want to help the guys out, seriously, the ONLY way changes are made is if there is a MASSIVE revolt. when they call you asking if you want to renew or asking why you cut off your contributions be blunt. say "I will not give one penny more to Tech athletics until Jim Oakes is fired. his leadership has left us at the bottom of all 1A programs. thanks to his leadership we are envious of ULM. as long as he is in charge, nothing will change. therefore as long as he is in charge i will not donate my money to Tech."

Not that many people give money anyway. Out of 40K alumni in LA how many are Champs members? What did Adam's letter say? 683? And out of the 683 how many really count? 5? 10? Until those 10 hold out the other 673 of us can whistle Dixie.
Would it make a difference if we showed up at Dooley's Radio show Thursday night? Not wanting to step on Dooley's toes, but we could probably hijack the show and turn it to the Joakes has to Go show.
I would not do that to Coach Dooley. Ever.
It would be disrepectful to him, to the guest speaker and to the guest player. And besides that, listening to Dooley is the only thing that is keeping me up about the whole situation.

We can also keep this news in the forefront. In the past we had to rely on inside reports, intuition, and comparisons with other programs to make our case that Oakes is holding us back. This is our first real independent, third-party confirmation that even another athletic director does not understand what we are up to down here. Regardless of what else we do, we need to be talking to other fans and alumni, keep this issue at the forefront. If we push the administration into crisis mode they will circle the wagons and things will get even worse. If we keep up steady pressure then we undermine the administration's ability to spin.
I may start a thread on this as well, but ABSOLUTELY do not need to force Dooley's hand on this. ANY CHANGE that is going to take place will be brokered in backroom deals. Forcing Dooley to stake out a public position against his "boss" will not do anyone any favors. However, I see no problem with those who have access to him making it clear that we support him and anything he wants to do to help force this issue behind the scenes.
Out of curiousity - what concern does the NCAA have with "whom" makes a large financial donation to LaTech athletics?
Maybe there would be some limitations at first on the type of things that the organization could do, but I can't imagine how the NCAA could affect a private nonprofit corporation or Tech for receiving donations from the nonprofit. I admit that I am clueless when it comes to NCAA regulations and such.
