For the LSU fans who just don't understand...

I tried to stay out of the conversation but realized that it will never end... Therefore, here is the closest way that I can explain it to the people who just do not understand why many TRUE Tech fans get mad about all of the LSU supporters who pull for LSU more than Tech.

Lets say we are all LSU fans, grads, supporters in whatever way. When Saban left LSU for the Miami Dolphins we would have been hurt, upset, etc. but in a way happy that he was making a move that could have been considered better for him and made him happy. Because the Dolphins are NFL and LSU is college I could understand some of the LSU fans being grateful to him for winning the championship and leading them out of a LONG lag for any major success(championship) and becoming Dolphin/Saban supporters and not bashing him for bettering himself(yes I know that it is Saints territory and nobody would want to openly support anybody else). Now, if the Saints were not the "home team" and those people wearing those Dolphin shirts occasionally to LSU stadium suddenly realized that Saban is no longer with the Dolphins but is back in college ball at ALABAMA!

Hmm...Because Saban was sooo good to LSU we will support him even though he is at ALABAMA and wear ALABAMA clothing, jerseys, hats, etc. to the home games at Tiger Stadium...even though LSU isn't playing ALABAMA. Instead of going in to watch the LSU game in person we will come and tailgate and watch the ALABAMA game just outside of the LSU stadium. We just like Saban and he did good for our team(state) so we will support him because ALABAMA's success makes us look good in some way, right?

Now, LSU fans, what would you say to the person that is wearing ALABAMA clothing to your home games all year long? This person supports ALABAMA over LSU in nearly every way. Oh yea, remember that this person likely graduated from LSU and still supports LSU but chooses to wear ALABAMA clothing and talk about ALABAMA all the time.

I realize that this is not the exact situation between Tech and LSU but this is the closest that I could put it in words that you may be able to understand.

How would you feel?


And for those of you who do not know me... I do not hate LSU. I do like to see teams from Louisiana do well and I pull for TECH in every game. I do not care who we are playing or what may be on the line for your team. GO DAWGS!

And I'll add my $.02. This arrogance thing extends well beyond the athletic fields. I am 47 years old now and I can remember back to the very late 70's or early 80's, USL had been on the cutting edge of computer "engineering" or programming or whatever it was called back then. They had recognized the future viability of having this program from early on and had nurtured it and built it into one of the finest in the nation. When the state of Louisiana decided to add this program as a Doctoral degree, guess which university got the program? The school with the vision that had nurtured this dynamic new field and had the staff already in place. NO!! It went to LSU with this explanation, and I paraphrase. You've done a great job. We have the resources to take this to a greater level than you. Remember your place and thanks for all you've done.
Fast forward to the mid 80's when a school in N. La. started a program years before with the same sort of vision and nurturing called Biomedical Engineering. When the state built a huge new research facility in this same field, guess where it was located? Again, the same response. Keep up the good work and remember though, don't forget your place.
I am sure it has happened to other schools too, but those are the two examples I am familiar with. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the same happen in Nano-engineering in the neart future.
So for those of you that don't get it, that is an example of how we are treated by the "powers" governing higher ed. in this state. Know your place. Please excel. Develop programs that we can take from you and put our name on, we are the "flagship" after all and we deserve it.

They're traditional national powers with nation wide following and attention. Lsu is a mid level bcs team with a regional (really one state) following that will rise up every 40 years or so.

I guess John D Booty didn't get the memo about all Louisiana citizens being lsu fans.

I disagree completely. There is no jealousy - it is hatred. I hated them when they were bad as well. I hate the arrogance of the idiots that support the program and think people that didn't go there should.

The reason for the hatred for me is just what JaketheTiger exhibited. They have a severe complex about not having the undying loyalty of every fan in the state and we are the last team in the state that has respect for its program (except the AD).

The UL's have surrendered - just look at their boards. I have no idea where Tulane is but then again to me they are the least La. team in the state.

True fans never abandon their ties, their loyalty, their school no matter what the odds.

If it stinks to them they must be unusually used to the smell of excrement that emulates from their stadium and the campus buildings. The smell of pine suites me just fine.

And IF La. Tech loses that does not change a true fan's support and loyalty to the school he/she roots for because we are Louisiana Tech BULLDOGS.

I have been indifferent to lsu for 40+ years although members of my family have a history of attending lsu and following lsu sports. Your post is helping me move off my indifference - to dislike. Thanks, Jake.

Wow...typical ignorant response. LSU, with it's hundreds of millions of dollars, is a whopping 1 tier higher than Tech and we have been classified in the same tier as recently as 3 years ago.

If Tech is never at the level of LSU, it will be because the government holds Tech back. LSU does incredibly little with the amount that they've got. They've got the most talented athletes in the country...y'all should win every year. You want to talk about fecal matter? Talk about the fact that LSU RARELY lives up to their potential. ...Nuke Dog - buddy you're right on - another good example is the Architectural program at Tech a few years back was really hammered by the LSU Board of Surpression to have it dismantled and sent to Baton Rouge through the reasoning of having duplicate programs...Many of the Tech Alumni in Shreveport rose to the occasion to fight this and WON...so how do you stay number one in the state ? Ummmm - Let me see !
