We're Still Playing for Something!

Inspired by the Blog Chris posted earlier, I decided to start a thread concerning a topic Dooley talked about during his press conference. We ARE still playing for something. That something is bowl eligibility. Regardless of whether you think we deserve a bowl or not, the fact that we would be bowl eligible would be a HUGE step in the right direction. Remember, this team lost 10 games last season and won only 2 against FBS competition (if you can call UNT and USU FBS...:icon_wink.

So, while last weekend was utterly painful for the Tech faithful, the season still means something. Here's what we need to happen to get a bowl spot.

1. WIN OUT! We must take care of our business
2. A WAC team must be placed in a non-WAC bowl (Boise or Hawaii)
3. Hawaii beats Nevada this week
4. SJSU beats Nevada after we beat Nevada (that would push the Wolfpack to 7 losses)

Some of the guys on the WAC board suggested that in the event that Nevada and Tech finished at 6-6, Tech would go to the bowl because we would have a better conference record. I really don't know much about that.

Okay, that was my semi-optimistic post for the day.

Oh, and the ESPN guys both have a WAC team in the Sugar Bowl (though they both picked different WAC teams).

If 1-4 happen, Tech WILL be bowling. There would be a WAC bowl open. Nobody is talking about an at-large bid.

The BCS boys have no one to blame but themselves. They set up the system to benefit their own programs. They even lowered the qualifications to ensure that they fill all their bowls. If schools like Tech benefit from BCS greed, I'm all for it.

if tech and nevada are both 6-6 and a wac bowl is open, they have to pick one of us no matter how bad they want a 6-6 arkansas or miss st.

If you lose a game 58-10 you do not deserve to go to a bowl game. Tulame played LSU alot better game then we did. It could of been 80-10.

Where was the motivation Saturday night to not quit in the second half. Our wins are against a 1-AA team, the two worst 1-A teams-USU, UI, and NMSU. The 6-6 SEC teams have at least a few quality wins. I saw some bad play calling Saturday night--reference Hogdog's post. You guys have think we have the Bear coaching here. I am not seeing it.

Yeah the way I understood it, the Sugar Bowl only has one conference tie in: the SEC champion. If LSU ends up winning the SEC and goes to the NCG, that gives the first and last pickings of two at-large programs that are BSC eligible/guaranteed.

They'd likely pick some big money Southern school first, to make sure and appeal to the local part of the country, so maybe Georgia, Missouri, Kansas, etc. They then would get the last pick of all the BSC bowls and would probably take Boise/Hawaii.
