Butler Promoted to Associate Athletic Director
RUSTON – Louisiana Tech Athletic Director Jim Oakes announced Thursday that Malcolm Butler has been promoted to Associate Athletic Director in charge of media relations.
A 1994 graduate of the Louisiana Tech journalism department, Butler joined the athletic department in July of 1999 as the assistant athletic media relations director.
Butler was then promoted to the director's position four months later and has served in that capacity until his recent promotion.
The 37-year-old is in charge of media relations for football, women's basketball, men's golf and softball as well as overseeing the daily procedures for the entire department, which includes three full-time staff members.
Butler has served as the host media coordinator for three NCAA Women's Basketball First- and Second-Round sites hosted by Louisiana Tech (2000, 2001 and 2003) while also winning numerous awards at the annual Louisiana Sports Writers Association Convention.
During his time at Tech, Butler has been instrumental in promoting a number of high-profile athletes, including San Francisco 49ers quarterback Tim Rattay (10th in the 1999 Heisman Trophy balloting), Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Moats (Semifinalist for 2004 Doak Walker Award) and Tamicha Jackson (2000 Kodak All-American).
In addition to his media relations responsibilities, Butler has served as the radio play-by-play announcer for the nationally-prominent Louisiana Tech Lady Techster basketball team for the past eight years.
