There's been an "official national championship game" since 1998, but each year a different BCS bowl (Fiesta, Rose, Sugar, and Orange) hosted the NC game where BCS 1 played BCS 2. The NC was decided by the winner of that game. No vote was taken to determine the NC. A "National Championship" game was added last year in addition to the four BCS bowls.

BCS is an organization "outside" the NCAA, there has not been an official NCAA National Champion. The NCAA "recognizing" the BCS Champion as that year's champion doesn't make it so. When the NCAA starts declaring champions and ruling football as it should, instead of letting a private organization that represents only itself, then there will be an official national champion.

The NCAA does have a football championship. It is now called the FCS.

they deserve to be in the blue turf bowl...they beat 2 teams with winning records this year! If they beat a single legitimate team from a BCS conference, i'd agree with you, but Washington doesn't count!

It is so. Only 6 conferences, that include the SEC, deemed themselves "worthy" of ever being considered for a BCS game and the BCS (not NCAA) championship.

Why not? Washington is a BCS team. They have had a few bad years altely, but they have been PAC-10 contenders. You might would have a case with Duke, Vanderbilt, Baylor, Iowa State, or Washington State.

Yeah that's fair. Thats BS, if the SEC is too tough for an SEC team to go undefeated then that is their problem. It's their system. It's their problem they can't go undefeated. As far as I am concerned Hawaii belongs in the NC game. If not than institute a playoff system so the National Championship is decided on the field. Not by voters or judges like gymnastics, ice skating or diving.

I keep seeing articles that say the BCS has "chosen" OSU and LSU to play in it's championship game. See that's the problem right there. The word "chosen" No one should be chosen to play for squat. You should play your way into a championship game. Right now I think USC and Oklahoma could beat LSU and OSU but we won't know that because of this joke of a system. I also "think" Hawaii would get beat by the other schools in the top-10 just like I "thought" OU would spank Boise last year. It needs to be decided on the field.

As long as Hawaii plays in the WAC, that is their problem. Just not strong enough to earn a chance. If they would have scheduled ANY legit out of conference games we might not be having this discussion. The thing is that Ohio State should be held to the same standard as Hawaii. Anybody who claims Hawaii has not played anybody should take a long look at Ohio State. No wins over any teams in the top 25 and a loss at home to ILLINOIS. If strength of schedule really was a factor then there is no way Ohio State should be in this game.

Unfortunately, people are still basing the LITTLE TEN on tradition and not the play on the field. The way the system works, why wouldnt you schedule cream puffs.........they are still in the NC game. Playoff is the only way to go........it is just impossible to handicap the differences in conferences and schedules, so lets play it out. I truly believe LSU got the shaft last year, if it had been a playoff they would have been National Champs. Until something is changed Ohio State will continue to schedule cream puffs and get in the NC game, who can blame them. A playoff will not only help the Hawaii's, but also the teams that DO play in legit conferences. That way a team that does slip up can still have a chance. The days of the undefeated powerhouses are over. 8 TEAM PLAYOFF, its not that difficult.

    Re: GO LSU

The BCS is a self fulfilling prophecy. A mid-major team gets good and beats a couple of lower tier BCS teams (e.g., Vandy, Baylor, etc.). At that point, no major BCS team will schedule them OOC bec. they don't want to play a tough OOC team. Instead they will schedule a weaker mid-major or 1-AA team to beat up on. Thus, the good mid-majors don't get to play enough of the big boys OOC to move them high enough in the rankings to even sniff #1 while they are good.

The good mid major teams will have no shot at making an NC game when the major BCS schools refuse to play them.

Didn't Georgia play Boise a few years ago and hand it to them??
