Another example of how great it is to wear purple and gold.

We have a big extended family Christmas party every year and 99% of my family are tigger fans. I have to listen to the garbage every year spew out of their mouth about LSU's greatness. And not once has a legitimate response come from them about my inquiring to why they are so proud to pull for LSU. Out of the 50 people at the gathering, 2 have a degree from LSU. There are 2 former football players from Tech in my family and I still have to fight this every year, with this year and a couple of years ago being the worse.

I was actually told that "well, they make the state look good." (refer to article for example)

My best friend from high school was speechless this past weekend when I told him that he should be a Lions fan (SLU), and that LSU has done nothing to put a roof over his head or food on the table for his family. He asked in a surprised voice, " So I should be in Hammond on Saturdays?" He has a #$%^#@! LSU sticker on his Expedition!!! This is that "attitude" that has been discussed on here many times about Louisiana natives.

Just a couple more examples of how long a road we must travel to be where we want to be.

And all of these lsu homers could be seen in full force at the Indy Bowl with their purlple and gold apparel on. What a bunch of tools. And to top it off my family receives a Xmas card from friend of ours both Tech grads, with their kids picture dressed up in LSU gear. Very sad.

My wife hates me to do this but I like to "pick" on folks wearing tigger stuff. I usually ask questions that quickly exposes them. My favorite question is "what's the name of that great poboy restaurant just off campus". About 75% of the time the answer is that they have no way of knowing since they have never been to a game. Sometimes I tell these"tigger fans" that Louisiana Tech is nearby and we play football, basketball, etc. and they are welcome to attend. For the most part, they just don't get it. It's as if they are thinking "I'm a tigger fan, so why would I go to TECH games".

You always hate fans like that. Jock other schools when they cant name any locations in the Baton Rouge area and for that fact name LSWHO football players. I questioned a fan at a football game one time and asked them to name me at least 5 players. He said Glenn Dorsey and thats the only player I know. And he was wearing LSWHO gear. He said he had never even been to Baton Rouge and hes routing for them cause they were number 1. What a joke

Being from Baton Rouge, I'd say that the most obnoxious LSU fan wannabes are from North Louisiana. Their overt insecurities make them fairly easy to spot.

i know from where i was sitting in the southwest corner of the stadium, i personally saw two different times purple and yellow wearing folks were taken off by escorts. there was another where a UTexas guy was taken off. I'm also beginning to think that most of the lsu fan use the "f'bomb" as a period to end a sentance. where the hell are they, "f'bomb", well, "f-bomb", I hate all these Bamers, "f'bomb", I need another corndawg and beer "f'bomb".

it was my observation that about a third of the lsu fans i saw down along the road to the stadium were there to harrass bama fans about saban. I was thinking then like ferrell says, "give it a "fbomb" break". He's been gone what is it 3 years or so. you have MILES, you're in teh NC, life is good get on with it.

I feel the same way about where I live in Tennessee. I see people all the time who attended my same undergrad with a Tennessee sticker or a license plate on their cars. I grew up 50 miles from Knoxville, and have been to my share of Tennessee games. However, I rarely miss my watching my alma mater in just about every sport. I go to as many as I can and I love it. This year I got so fired up because our homecoming was on the same day as the Tennessee-Georgia game. When I was talking to a friend and fellow alum, I said well, we can get together during homecoming, and she was like oh I can't I am going to the Tennessee-Georgia game! Now she is from Georgia, but she didn't go to Georgia and she didn't go to Tennessee. I was like why would you go to that game when A. its homecoming, and B. you graduated from this school not one of those. Her response was that she didn't care about our game! It always makes me so mad. I know my undergrad is in the FCS division, but it is still the university we went to. My family is just as bad too, and we have 10 degrees (bachelors and masters) from my undergrad and 2 from Tennessee! Last fall I made a sister and her husband (both alums) go to a basketball game with me, and when we left her husband goes, man that was pretty fun, and that was the first game I have ever been too! He graduated 4 years ago! It is hard for me to get to a lot of Louisiana Tech games with my job because it is very time consuming. However, anytime Tech is close to me, I do everything I can to make the trip. When I went to the Lady Techsters-Western Kentucky game this year, someone asked me why I would want to go since I graduated 2 years ago. I was like cause it's my alma mater and I am proud to have a degree from there, and I want to support them. I will never understand how you can be loyal to a university that has done nothing for them.

I'm guilty of doing something similar. Here's a typical exchange between me and a "Fake Fan" of LSU: (I had several conversations like this on my recent trip to BR for the Tech vs LSU football game)

HD: "So, I see you're an LSU fan. What year did you graduate from LSU?" (All the while I already know they didn't attend LSU at all.)

Fake Fan: "Umm.....oh, I didn't graduate from LSU".

HD: "Oh. Really. (Now they are squirming a bit.) That's interesting. So, did you ever go to school there?

Fake Fan: "Naaaw.....I just always liked 'em. They're the best team in the whole wide world."

HD: "Sooo...... you're really just a Pretender.......or a Fake Fan?"

Fake Fan: "Hey....that's not fair. I just always liked the Tigers. I grew up liking LSU."

HD: "Well, where did you actually graduate from?"

Fake Fan: "Oh......I graduated from Tech."

HD: "Tech? Are you kidding? Me too. Why in the world would you pull for LSU over Tech? (Then I back up a half step, scan Fake Fan's silly looking LSU attire and change the smile on my face to something much more serious and purse my lips.......as if I had just encountered a traitor.)

HD: "Don't you have some pride for where you're from? I would never sell out my school like that."

At this point the Fake Fan recoils into his or her defense mode. Deep down he feels ashamed and knows he's been exposed as a pretender. He knows that I have seen through his facade, and he spends the next 10 minutes trying to make me understand why he switched allegiances.

The answer to all of this nonsense, Tech grads, LSU fans, create a product that they will be proud of WHILE THEY ARE IN SCHOOL! Those that are lost are probably lost for good, or until LSU posts a 7-4 record and winds up in the Indy. Give the current students a good product on the field, and facilities they can be proud of and you will have them for life...at least most of them. That will be the first step in the right direction.

We will never win all of them back. But it all starts with the product and the facilities. On a side note, it seems I am noticing more and more Tech stuff on cars on people around Shreveport. I watch pretty closely and it seems there is more. Of course, at the same time, there is more LSU gear because of the upcoming NC game. But Tech seems to be on the rise.
