    Re: TRUCK'S BACK!!!!

I think most of those are for the Band not the football team, really why would the football team need a truck that big? Most of the medical supplies are supplied by the home team, the pad's don't take up that much room.

Hate to post this..(because it's LSU). Found an article when they purchased theirs. It was in 2004. Graphics done by their publications office of there Athletic Dept
"The tractor portion of the billboard on wheels is being leased by LSU from PAC-Lease/Peterbilt of Louisiana. The trailer, officially called a Trailmobile, was purchased by the Tiger Athletic Foundation from Jackson Truck and Trailer for about $40,000."

You are totally wrong. Each team has to provide ALL of the training supplies used for a game. this includes the locker room supplies, and the sideline trunks. the actual equipment takes up more room then you think. each player has a bag which holds their shoulder pads, helmet, cleats, pants pads, extra equipment the player may want, and clothing. Multiply that by 82+ that travel and that is a lot of room right there in the 21' Ryder trucks we were forced to use. Then there are the clothing trunks that hold the players game clothing, the uniforms trucks, the extra equipment trunks, the equipment sideline trunks, the coaches clothing trunks, the winter jacket trunks when needed, and finally the coaches communication trunks. When all of that was packed, the cargo hold of the truck was completely filled, and that caused us to not bring everything that we needed so we ofted had to make due with what we could bring. Most of those trucks pictured are NOT for the bands use. I know for a fact that they are for the football programs. They are rolling ads for the programs and are usually parked outside the venue where the football game is being played so people can see them. The trucks can be used for the band equipment as well, but most programs have seperate trucks for that. Usually, the secondary trucks are 25'-40' Ryder type trucks that have been painted with school logos, etc, and are designated for their use. Basketball and Baseball are generally not using equipment trucks because they can carry their equipment with them, and the training staff doesn't need the same amount of supplies for an 11 person team that they would for a full football roster.

Do nlulm, ull, southern miss, north texas, ark state, tulsa, smu, miss st, ole miss, baylor,or tcu have semi's instead of well painted former u-haul trucks? We have to out recruit these schools. We have to be on level ground with these schools if we hope to out recruit them. We need a professionally painted tractor-trailer promoting TECH football riding the highways.

Our Company offered up a tractor trailer to Jim Oakes, he didn't want a Semi due to our conference schedule. That is why we did the truck for tech a 24' truck. We move their equipment and 24' is big enough.
ULM is getting a 18 wheeler and unveiling it at the Mardi Gras. I'll be happy to donate a 18 wheeler however the wrap for a semi run 15-20K. Whenever Tech needs one!
    Glad to be back guys!-DV

This may be one of the more intelligent posts that I've seen on here in a while. You can take the SEC, Sunbelt, and Big 12 teams out of that mix and it would be even better. Those teams are realistically on a different level (higher and lower) than us and in terms of recruiting we have to realize that. I don't see a recruit not coming to Tech because of the size of our truck (although a larger one would help logistically), but as fans we have to take an honest look as to where we are and who we are up against. Like it or not we are in the WAC for now and we need to look at winning games and winning the WAC. We will recruit well, and I believe we have this year, against SMU, TCU, Houston and Southern Miss to get the players we want and move on from there. I would love to say that we are going to get some players from Ole Miss or Miss St., but at this juncture that is just not the case. At any rate, our truck looks great (ran by it last night) and am anxious for signing day.

    Re: TRUCK'S BACK!!!!

Our equipment truck runs to the SHV airport and that is it. Most of those schools drive to every game away game so their truck would drive even if the team flys most likely. If we had an 18 wheeler it would get driven from Ruston to SHV and that is pretty much it. I am not saying we don't need one but it would not be as beneficial to us as those schools. It would basically sit int he parking lot and be a big billboard, not a bad thing.

    Re: TRUCK'S BACK!!!!

No, the rule we have always gone by is that the equipment is driven as long as it is not over 8 hours away. There have been times where this rule was broken because Oakes made the Managers drive to Nebraska and El Paso, but most of the time, the equipment truck is not just being driven to Shreveport and left at the airport.

    Re: TRUCK'S BACK!!!!

For those schools that are further away than a 6-8hour drive, the equipment is flown with the team, with only a few exceptions which were caused by Oakes selling the managers/trainers plane seats to boosters (Nebraska game 2007). When the team flies, the equipment is loaded into the truck in Ruston, driven to Shreveport (was Monroe when I was with the program), and then the equipment is loaded onto the plane. The truck is left in a secured parking lot, and there is a truck waiting for us at the other airport for transporting the equipment. There have been times where the other school had a truck (painted with their logos, ect) for our use.

There are schools who do drive their equipment everywhere (except Hawaii) using their 18-wheeler (see images in this thread). Typically, they will load the equipment up on Wednesday night and the driver will head out for the game site. They truck, when the stadium allows, is used as the moble equipment room and training room. The trailer is modified to have a scaled down training room complete with tables. If the stadium does not provide parking that close, all the equipment and supplies are unloaded and the onsite facilities (which can suck majorly: Penn State, Miami) are used. Once the game is over, everything is loaded back onto the truck and the driver heads back home. Depending on how far the trip is, the equipment will usually arive back by Monday. The uniforms, soiled clothing, and anything needed for Monday are flown back with the team.

    Re: TRUCK'S BACK!!!!

For an 18 wheeler, including the tractor, you'd be looking at a minimum of $150,000.

Truck or no truck...at least we won't have to worry about Joakes screwing over any more players and managers.
