He'll be out of gas by halftime with their run-and-gun offense...unless they're planning morehalf-court offense, I see this as an off-the-wall move to try and get over the hurdle that is the Western Conference...
Well, Marion is the most overrated player in the NBA, and the Suns weren't going to ask him back next year. It will be very interesting.
Marion will make $17 mil this year and will probably opt out. Shaq is owed $20 mil this year and 2 more years after that. If the Suns determined that there is no free agent for them to try to sign over the next two years, it is not too risky because if they didn't spend the $17 mil that Marion will opt out of, they would lose the cap space. This allows them to trade Shaq as an expiring contract year after next, or if he shows something but just doesn't cut it in their system, he still may have some value. They are just trying to get something for Marion rather than him walking and having nothing to show for it. Plus, O'Neal's good natured attitude will probably fit in much better with the Suns than Marion's whining.
Well, every team Shaq has played for has reached the NBA Finals...let's see if he's got one more in him...
I heard Steve Kerr say that after they evaluated Shaq, they felt that their training program could improve and extend Shaq several more years. I think the problem maybe getting the big guy to do the work for more than one year.
