    Importance of Good Facilities

In todays Ruston Daily Leader there is an article about RHS's new track and new track dressing room. The following quote is from CC and Track Coach Dave Anderson which sums up the need for improved facilities as it relates to the athlete...
"Theres no doubting that a nice facility translates into greater pride. Kids feel different when things look good. You can find ways to get around less than desirable circumstances but you just can't deny the impact of good facilities. And that's why we're working collaboratively to really step it up throughout this entire athletic complex. We want to make a statement; a statement about Bearcat pride."

I would say that Tech officials aren't that tuned in to this. They have pretty good vision for where they want the university to go, but seem blind to the signs all around them i.e. no campus signage, orange garbage cans outside of numerous buildings, leaves piling up outside building entrances, missing bricks in public walkways, alumni bricks not being maintained nor corrected, flower bed edging in the quad broken and not repaired, little to no landscaping around numerous buildings, the concourse at the TAC, etc.

If DR would walk around campus like I and many others have, and just express his desire for better basic maintenance activities, we would see some action. I know when my CEO points out something people take action - don't underestimate positional authority. But we are talking about someone who's basketball seats in the TAC have filthy end-of-row caps that have been that way for the last 20 years and never been cleaned!

Tech is too provential and complacent and until that starts to change, we are not going to reach the heights that the administration espouses.

If you want to be mad, read this about what lowly Lamar, SFA, and Mcneese State are spending or have spent on football alone in the past few years. Mcneese State has spent more than 12 million on football only facilities recently! We have spent about a million and a half in the past 10 years including wyley, new weights which Karl donated and the locker room. WE have a LONG way to go. Hopefully the new AD will have a clue as to what facilities should look like at a D1 school.

    Re: Importance of Good Facilities

Then you read the following quote from DD in his Press Conference and to the Recruiting Luncheon with DR and JO along with a large CHAMPS membership present:

Solid verbal commitments for Louisiana Tech were pursued, and in some cases lost, to Texas Christian, Southern Methodist, Tulsa, Southern Miss and Memphis.

“All of those schools have made great commitments to upgrade their programs,” Dooley said. “Identifying those competitors was important
    .”

If we want to have a respectable program year in and year out, DD is pointing our leaders.

Hope they take the lead with actions!! We'll see.
