    catching wild pigs...

I haven't posted in the Paw-Litics or even read the threads here for some time. I got this email from a fellow alum and long time friend. I think it makes quite a statement about the populous of this country and echoes some thoughts I have had for some time. I'm not looking for a lot of responses. I just wanted to get this somewhere for all to share.

There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Prof noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back And stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked, ' Do you know how to catch wild pigs?'

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke. 'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in The last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them an d catch the whole herd.

Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how To forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America. The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, free medical, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms - just a little at a time.

One should always remember 'There is no such thing as a free Lunch! Also, a politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.

Also, if you see that all of this wonderful government 'help' is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America, you might want to send this on to your friends. If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life then you will probably delete this email, but God help you when the gate slams shut!

I've been waiting for 2 days......
    WITH CURIOUSITY......
And watching the reply count on a thread about a "weenie in a cookie jar" climb to 31......
While the above missive has not been given so much as a brain belch by all the collective little grey cells that frequent this relatively minor message mumbo jumbo.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said...... But I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

    Re: catching wild pigs...

One of the most interesting men......
I have ever known, is an old BLACK MAN who was once a brilliant lawyer and is now a retired judge.

I have never forgotten a conversation I had with him @ 20 years ago...... When he explained to me how government welfare programs were merely modern day extensions (in disguise) of hundreds of years of sanctioned slavery, followed by generations of severe social segregation.

    IMNHO......
The corn in the forrest that once so easily TRAPPED most American Negroes, and damn near all American White Trash...... Is now licking at the heels of America's middle-class with nothing but malevolent intent.

All any middle-class American needs to CONTINUE BELIEVING is that OUR federal (republican or democrat) government will deal more fairly with the Sioux, than it previously did with the various members of the Iroquois nation.

    And is it not ironic......
That the modern day temptation in America's economic forrest...... Is gasoline made from CORN, while our federal fellows debate border FENCES?

    Good night.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said...... But I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I agree with him, and I have discussed this with several people who have never thought of it that way. Some agree and some disagree.

I usually sum up the bottom line by relaying two quotes:
"Nobody ever got rich working on a salary."
"The US President makes less than $250K per year. Bill Gates makes more than that in a week."

Uncle Sam isn't known for paying well, nor should he be when it comes to welfare. But, those who are satisifed with a "salary" from Uncle Sam will never see much of a change in lifestyle.

    Re: catching wild pigs...

I've always said that the United States was based on the assumption of the Founding Fathers that the citizenry were smart and independent enough to govern themselves. This country was designed to succeed or fail based on the will and effort of the people. The people of the U.S. have just become too lazy and complacent to provide for themselves and we will reap what we have sown. People want the American dream but don't want to work for it. I just had one of my graduate students tell me this week that he wants a Ph.D., but doesn't want to do the work to get it. That says a lot to me about this country as a whole.

I would rather fail miserably on my own than have the government run my life.

LBJ knew exactly what he was doing. Although it would be difficult to find, there is a very damning quote from him stating as much.

Of course, citizenship wasn't open to everyone back then either.

CRP is a good thing. Whether you are a hunter or not, the success of the ducks and other various small mammals and birds depends on the existence of CRP. CRP is crucial for nesting ducks. Other than that, I thought it was very interesting

Actually now what is worse and seems to be happenning now is those pigs that are smart enough to find their own food and not fall for the government trap are the ones that are being most ridiculed and the dumber pigs want to penalize the smart ones.

I keep reading about it and hearing over and over, if you succeed then people and the government want to take away your earnings. It is even happening in the schools. Do you here all government school systems getting away from grades because it makes the "dumb" kids feel bad.

The good thing about working for Uncle Sam is that the retirement annuity is safe and increases with the cost of living index (CPI). Nobody else can afford to do that for the long-term.

    Re: catching wild pigs...

I love these types of stories. I doubt the conversation ever even took place, but it does make for a good alarmist type of email. The funny thing about these types of stories is how far they have to be stretched to even relate to reality. Now, I don't doubt that this is a method on how to catch wild pigs in a South American country, but come on people. Are we freaking wild pigs? Of course you can catch a wild pig this way because it's a stupid freaking wild pig who only thinks of eating and rolling in the mud and getting a little when he gets the chance. Personally, I take it as a personal insult when someone likens my intelligence and perceptive ability to a pig. There are too many watchdogs these days that will allow any type of this thing from happening in America. Of course, if you believe this type of story has any application to our situation in America, you probably do have the intelligence of a pig.

I always find it funny that there are people who will cry out about our government when they have some type of program someone doesn't agree with yet expect them to fund the programs they do agree with. And taxes. I love how Christians go on and on about the govt. taking "my money". If I'm not mistaken, I thought it said something in the Bible that nothing is ours. It's God's. So, it's not really "our money" to begin with.(if you're a Christian)

I also find it funny that many of those who begrudge paying taxes that goes to help those in need because they feel those people should work for it are the same ones who will badger everyone to give "their" money to Tech even though Tech hasn't worked for it. I guess when one welfare case wears a certain color it's alright.

    How to catch wild pigs?

Go to JJ's, buy them several crown and cokes, and promise to take them to Texaco for a cheeseburger.
