SAINTS WANT SHOCKEY
With tight end Jeremy Shockey possibly on the outs in New York, there already are teams interested in his services.
According to John Clayton of ESPN.com, via our friends at Rotoworld.com, the Saints have contacted the Giants regarding the availability of Shockey. Giants G.M. Jerry Reese previously has suggested that Shockey won't be traded.
Shockey suffered a broken leg in December, and rookie Kevin Boss played well in his place. Also, some think that the stunning development of quarterback Eli Manning had a lot to do with the absence of Shockey.
Saints coach Sean Payton was the offensive coordinator in New York during Shockey's rookie season of 2002.
Also these comments off of Black and Gold:
Here's the thing with Shockey:
1.- He's a Hurricane, so out of college he had an attitude.
2.- He landed on the Giants, and got 2 years of Fassell, Collins, and Tiki; his 2nd year the Giants blew big desert wind, the coach got fired, etc
3.- then he gets Eli as his QB and Emperor Palpatine as HC, with Tiki still whining in the lockerroom... now Eli, SB ring and all, he is not the type QB that can lead guys like Shockey. Shockey has too strong a personality which probably intimidates Eli.
4.- You know that no matter what, not being able to play in that playoff run and SB is got to be tearing him up inside... listening to all those comments about how the team was better without him, and how Eli was able to lead the team because he wasn't in the huddle...
Enter the Saints:
1.- He's got something to prove.
2.- His QB would be Drew Brees. No intimidation there.
3.- He'd be in an offense where he will get the ball.
4.- His HC would be a young coach who like offense.
Yep, I wouldn't mind seeing Shockey in NO at all.
