Techsters' last home game could shuffle playoff pairings - News Star

A new article has been posted on The News Star:

RUSTON ? Tonight's Western Athletic Conference contest between Louisiana Tech and Nevada could have a significant bearing on the Lady Techsters opponent in the first round of the league tournament this month.

Feel free to discuss it here

    Nevada

Ready or not, the Techsters host Nevada tonight in an important match up. Nevada is all about stealing the ball and pouring in the threes. We HAVE to get on their guards and stay on them. In the last game against them, we started out slow and had to play catch up. We DID catch up and played our hearts out in the second half. It was a tough loss by 4 points. We can't get that behind again. The good news is that Nevada CAN go cold and, usually, does at some point in the game.
    Keys to the game:
    • HOLD ON TO THE BALL
    • Get the long rebounds
    • Our guards need to hit some from the outside to loosen up their defense on Sneed and Dowdell.
The Wolfpack will come out hungry due to their loss against NMSU. This game has the potential to rearrange the conference seedings heading into the tournament.

On a side note, Whitney Jones is recovering well from her injury. It appears that she will be back next year with a couple of years left on her eligibility. We have missed her PG abilities all season long. Hopefully, this will allow Pringle to move into the 2 spot and use her strengths to our advantage.

    Champ,

From what I understood, she will get this year back also which would give her three years of eligibility remaining. Is that correct?

That is correct from what I understand, as well.

    Re: Nevada

From the NewStar article it indicates that if we win we would likely play Nevada again in first round of the tournament. If we lose we could end up playing New Mexico State on their home court. My preference would be to have Nevada in the first round. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going with a strong performance tonight.

"A win by Tech coupled with a win by New Mexico State over Fresno State Saturday would almost solidify that the Lady Techsters and Wolf Pack would meet in the first round of the WAC Tournament March 12."

"A loss by Tech leaves numerous scenarios still in play, including possibly playing New Mexico State in the first round on their home floor for the second straight year."

There are a lot of scenarios that could play out. The big one is if Fresno continues on a downward spiral. Fresno could end up coming in third, instead of 1st or 2nd.

Yes, the refs suck, and I don't usually blame the refs. That said, the level of play also sucks. There are moments where you think "here they go" and it looks like the Techsters are going to get it together and then, in a flash, they look like a bad high school team.

Enjoy watching Mulford. Yes, I know she makes mistakes, but she is fun to watch.

    Re: Nevada

The refs really do suck. Amazing! We went up by 11 but Nevada closed it to 4 before the half. Pringle was handling Criner very well, but stayed on the bench with 2 fouls for about the last 8 minutes of the half. We don't have anyone else that can guard her.

Shordy is fun to watch. I agree! She can't guard Criner (sp?), though. We need Pringle in there. That made the big difference between an 11 point lead and a 4 point lead.

I've held firm on my promise to not comment on Long until after the season.

That said, man, this is ugly basketball. This team just cannot put together 3 good minutes of ball. The simplest fundamentals elude this group.

    It's not fun to watch.

    1:37 Tech 63-56

    FT shootin' time

Pringle fouls out after one hell of a defensive game against Criener.

    65-57

    :53 TECH 67-61

    :24 TECH 70-63

    FINAL 70-64

Wasn't pretty. but a good win for the Techsters.
