never been on one but i know there are reports on www.louisianasportsman.com from many of the charters. I know a few people who have used a charter and i'll try to find out who that was.

I went on one a little over 10 years ago, and thought it was really good. I didn't have to pay anything except tip the deck hands for cleaning the fish. We got quite a bit of fish. I don't know how it is now as far as getting fish, but these guys generally know of several places to go. We fished the rigs. Is that the type of charter your friends are thinking about? I think they only allow 6 people. I want to say we had more than that when we went. I guess the best way to answer your question is that I'm planning on booking a boat next year for dirtylegacy's birthday for him to bring a couple of friends without hesitation plus our church's men's group goes every year.

It is definitely worth going. I have been on several occasions. Most of the time, I went with the Lodge of La., but Katrina shut it down. I went to Ryan Lambert's Cajun Fishing Adventures once and had a great time as well. They are still open and are featured on the Outdoor Channel a good bit. Their housing, amenities, and food are out of this world so I would definitely recommend them. http://www.cajunfishingadventures.com/index.html I am going with http://www.marshmasters.com/, the 1st weekend in May for a bachelor party. They do marsh fishing, rig-fishing and/or bowfishing and I think they are a bit more economical. The only advice I have is to fish 2 people+the guide to a boat if you are marsh fishing. I have been on a trip with 4 or 5 people fishing and it wasnt pleasant when the fishing was slow. Of course I was being "front-hogged" But if you go rig-fishing or really get into the fish, it won't matter if you have 20 in the boat. Hope this helps

    Honker,

Do you know of any charters that go rig fishing that will allow more than 6 on a boat? The few I looked at, I don't remember which ones, only allowed 6. I thought it was a law are something. If I can find one that will allow more, that will be awesome because I was planning on my son inviting his friends and their fathers could come too.

-Dont know anything about these guys but i would think a 65' boat could legally take more than 6. These are just a couple of the deep-sea trips that I found. For the near-shore rig-fishing, It'll probably be hard to take a big group one 1 boat. You could probably book 2 or 3 boats with the same company/charter and try that.

Are you referring to inshore (speckled trout/redfish) or offshore?

    Re: Charter Fishing

I have been on a few charters out of Grand Isle. We normally take a couple boats down with us and fish a day or 2 in the marsh and then charter a boat for offshore. Ask around and find some people who can personally recommend a captain and boat that fit your needs. You can definately have more than 6 people in the boat, it just depends on the captains preferences and the ability for him to find enough deckhands to make your trip an enjoyable one. I personally recommend breaking up a large group into a couple of boats. It's more expensive, but if you don't spend half of the day untangling lines because there are too many people in the boat then it is much more fun.

If you know someone with a boat that is capable of going offshore, don't hesitate to take it. You can learn yourself. Drive out until your depth finder reads 80-100 ft and find a rig to tie to. Set lines at different depths from the bottom to the surface and sit back and wait. If no luck within 30 minutes move to another rig. There are also publications out there that tell you the GPS locations of the reefs.

I would not recommend it, but I took my 18 foot aluminum bass boat out one day and caught more fish than the guide put us on the following day.

Im thinking more of inshore, with the trout. I looked at a couple and it seems to be cheaper, I like to catch alot, doesn't matter how big they are as long as I can clean them.

I couldn't imagine being out there with an 18' boat, the min I would take is 25-30.

Dirty, I have been on two Charlie Hardison trips aboard the big 65' foot boat. Went out for over 24 hours and bottom fished around the rigs during the day then tuna fished at night. Little Dirty may not big big enough yet to wrestle a big Tuna or shark in the boat (I am not big enough either). However, the boat can fish 12 comfortably and you will catch fish of all kinds. Big sharks, snappers, amberjack, dauphin, black fin and yellow fin tuna, etc. Expect to pay $400 or so per head if you do the long trip. They may have shorter ones.

If anyone cares to invite me on a trip, I will gladly take them up on the offer! I will bring the beer.

Perhaps over time you can learn. If you just drove down, launched a boat and caught fish you should have left immediatley and visited a casino. My boss bought himself a nice fishing boat last year(20+ft, 200hp). Of course he could not wait to take us all out for a day of hook wetting. That's about all we did was wet hooks and he had "contacts" telling him where to go. I think they were leading him away from the fish. We couldn't even catch fish under the birds. I have decided if he asks again I will decline so I don't have to help wash the darn boat afterward.

Confessions of an admitted fish catcher, not fisherman. If they ain't bitin' I ain't stayin'.

I've used these guys out of Venice for years and years. I took 7 other guys on my bachelor party (longer ago than I care to think of) and we had such a fun/successful trip that we've all gone back. They are a quality outfitter and have never let me down. If you want LOTS of fish these guys can do it. Ask for Anthony Randazzo and tell him Ross/Maxwell's Market in Shreveport recommended him.
