It's interesting to go back and read the first topic on this board, the schedule announcement at the beginning of the year. Many of us had been criticized for our "negativity" from the previous season, and our opinions on Long, etc.
Those who are "positive" and "true fans" kept telling us to hang in there, that this season would show that we were wrong in our assessments of Longs abilities or lack thereof.
I admittedly stated that I though I was being optimistic in predicting a 19-10 season, losing 5 games in the WAC. Turns out it was optimistic. Beyond what I'd even allowed room for.
At the beginning of this season it was all about our "pure shooters" and "scorers" and "talent" and "great recruiting class." It was also STILL about Budke (laughable, I know) and Long was just now making his mark on the program.
Turns out Long's mark on the program is a big fat red smear of ink, destroying most of our records and establishing new ones that are embarrassing lows for the program.
Three years under Long. These are his much-heralded recruits. Come back at me with every excuse you want. They are all empty. If only Whitney wasn't hurt....if only Sidney had been stronger....if only our guards could have hit outside shots....if only we'd had more time....whatever. The only "if only" that I'm concerned about is this: If only Tech would stop the ship from sinking now then possibly the program will rise again. As of now, we've become a bottom-dweller. Disagree all you want, red dot me all you want, but facts are facts. We are now not even among the top 100 programs in the country.
You want to know why recruits aren't flocking to Tech? It's not because many of us THINK Long is the wrong person for the job. It's actually because he IS the wrong person for the job. The program is sinking. Not many top tier players want to jump on a sinking ship.
