I would not think that we would. Our record in the WAC, most likely, would prevent this.
you have to have a winning record to get an invite.
We do have that, but it would depend on how many other teams that did not make the NCAA's have a better winning record. I guess there is always a chance for an invite, but I would think not. I would rather not do it, anyway.Originally Posted by bluecrew

You might be right but this year we definately need to take it if we get it with all the youth on this team. We need as much court time as possible and although it isn't the NCAA tourney it is post season and we need to use it as exposure for recruits. I am not a fan of the NIT but we have to put that chip off our shoulders of being too good for that tournament. The goal last year was the NCAA tournament, this year the motto that was on the website forever was Under Contstruction and part of reconstructing the program is post season play so if they offer it I pray that we will graciously accept it.
While I like the idea of more experience for the players, I differ with your opinion. I think our program needs to set a goal and not settle for less. If we don't live up to the goal, then we shouldn't get anything. The Lady Techsters should be all about the NCAA.
That is just my opinion and I know that there are others.
I bet we never get another invite. However, I hope we do this year. Our returning gals and possible coaches need all of the experience they can receive.
Champ, I know exactly where you are comming from but we have to begin the tradition again somewhere and I just think that all our youngsters should get as much time as possible in post season environment. I know that last year the goal was the NCAA tournament for the team but I am not sure what the goal was this year, having as many new and young players I would have been very hesitant to make that an end all goal for the team. I would have set post season play as a goal but I would not have been specific as to where it was.
I just know that in rebuilding a program we have to do things in steps and once we had missed the ncaa tournament and by passed the NIT is was a perfect time to set this seasons goal to attain participation in post season play.
I would actually be surprised if we get an invite but I really think we need to jump at it if we do. I feel it will pay off in the future. Look at Western Kentucky they have continued to fight through the WNIT and now they are back in the NCAA they have went every year to one or the other and it continues to bode well for their resume on recruits.

Problem is Tech snubbed them last year and refused an invite then. What makes you think they will offer Tech another??
You guys are putting WAY to much emphasis on us declining the NIT bid last year. I doubt VERY seriously that the NIT cared that we turned them down. Most of you are acting like they got their little feelings hurt. The NIT didn't care one way or another. We are just another team and they had plenty to choose from.
I agree with Champion110. If the Techsters were one of the top teams left out of the NCAA they'd get a WNIT invite.
IMHO,I think it goes deeper than that Tech77. I believe if Tennesee, Duke or Baylor had the same record we do this year that they would get a NIT bid if left out of the NCAA's. The political dirty water seems to run deep these days in WBB. Then again I could be wrong.

I very seriously doubt it. The only way I would think we would get in is if they wanted our past "Tradition" to help publicize the tourny and sell a few more tickets. But I suspect our "Tradition" means very little to them right now. So no, I don't see it at all.
