I hope your point is not that you have to play a game in order to know the game. That wont hold water my friend.
Just because you play (any game) at a high level doesn't mean your opinion is any more correct than any one else's. I am just pointing out that most of the great coaches in sport were not great athletes.
As for the team, its no secret we are giving up way too many runs.
Looking at the stats, 36 errors in 23 games isn't exactly awe inspiring fielding either.
In every sport defense wins championships.
That's not to say that the champion may not be better than the runner-up or other legit contenders on offense, but NONE of the teams would have gotten anywhere near the World Series, or a basketball Final Four, or a major bowl without playing great, great defense.
(And don't cite Hawaii's trip to the Sugar Bowl as a counter-argument. We all know the truth of that one. Besides, UH was NOT a NC contender, were they!)
And, defense and especially pitching, is 90% of the game of baseball.
Tech has a good offense. They have already demonstrated they can score runs. But, now they are 12-9 and 0-3 in conference play. Mediocre, at best, is the team that can hit, but can't pitch. It's been proven time and time again, at all levels of baseball. When Sim gets a truly great pitching staff Omaha will be a real possibility. Until then, Tech baseball will suffer through limited success, at best.
Maybe those blaming the pitching and talking up our hitting haven't watched the same team I have this year. Minus opening weekend vs Mcneese, we haven't exactly been crushing the ball. Most games we wait til the 9th inning to start scoring runs. And anyone that says pitching has been THE problem is wrong; it has been one of the problems, along with lack of timely hitting and even defense at times. Pitching has been subpar and some guys that are supposed to be studs are struggling, but let's not blame all these losses on the pitching. Hopefully either hitting or pitching will get hot and the other will feed off it. That's how baseball works. Right now both are struggling, which makes it hard to win games. Lot of season left...
I for one think that the hitting is the area we must improve immediately to compete. It is about timely hits and we haven't had them.
Defense is drastically worse overall than last year. If that improves then our pitching will be more successful instantly.
Rabbidawg My response was to someone who loves to get on the band wagon when were winning but when things aren't going right want to rip up the team. People like that need to play the game to understand it 's not as easy as they may think. If you are a true fan you will support these guys all the time.
Ok, I understand now.
It is just hard to accept losing big like this when our expectations were so high to start the season. At least we had high expectations, huh? There was a period of time when we didn't even have that.

Go figure... crying on BBB.
We are off to an 0-4 start, but... There are a lot of games left to be played. It's pretty obvious we need to win the WAC tournament to get into the playoffs. The great thing is the WAC tournament is in Ruston. I have confidence this team will come around. We may not be as good as we had hoped, but we're not as bad as we've looked thus far.
Dissapointing weekend....Anybody have questions for the show tonight please post them here.
Come on people. Every preseason pronas had us either competing for the WAC or getting a bid. We are now 0-4 in the WAC. Sim has no excuse for how this team is playing because there is no excuse. Instead of being experienced and better, we are experienced and go figure worse. Keep singing his praises if you want, but his teams are too streaky which may get us year after years of third place and no better finishes, but it will not get us a bid to the big tourney. He is the Richard of baseball at Tech. Get your hopes up with an occasional win against Arkansas then proceed to lose four strait against teams we should beat.
BASEBALL is a STREAKY SPORT.
It has nothing to do with Sim's coaching style.
Didnt say I was ready to quit. Will continue to watch the Techsters, Diamond Dawgs, Dunking Dawgs, and whatever freakin Dawg we call the football team. But I am tired of mediocrity from our very talented teams and 0-4 this weekend doesnt even reach the level of mediocrity. How about playing like knowing you are the better more experienced team and going out and proving it? Despite what some of you are passing off, this team is experiened and was supposed to not just compete but win the WAC. How many wait until next years are we going to have to listen to just because the man painted a fence around JC Love. If he is as good as he says he is, its time they put up or shut up. If your experienced team is getting swept by Nevada, than guess what? It's just as much the coach's fault as the teams.
