Didn't know there were so many SAE's on here! PA guys.
The Greek system is definitely on an upswing at Tech. Its unfortunate what happened to TEKE after being such a strong chapter for so long. I heard a rumor a few years ago that Terry Bradshaw wanted a huge appearance fee to speek at Rush for them. So much for brotherhood, huh? SAE was first in grades all year until this quarter when we just missed tying for second by a few hundredths of a point. We went number 1 in Rush in the Fall too, pledging in 25 guys and initiating 18 of them and now we have 6 spring pledges.
Who says we get forgotten because we're off campus? Sure it would be way better if we were right next to school, but we're only 1 mile away from Tolliver Hall. Plus, SAE and KA were the only two fraternities for most of the year that could have parties due to everyone else being on social probation. As far as the other fraternities are going, I can't really say, but pretty much everyone is holding elections right now and the new presidents that I know of look like they can get things taken care of.
Right now the greek system looks like
IFC members:
KA
SAE
PIKE
DX
ATO
AGR
Sigma Nu
IFC probationary members:
Pi Kappa Phi (no house until numbers get up)
Acacia (not sure, may have taken over the SP on Louisiana?)
non-IFC members (any members at all?)
Sigma Pi (has a house on California on 167 south)
TKE (rumored to be reinstated in about 5 years... We'll see)

Why don't the fraternities stay for football games? Is there a rule against wearing blue?
Not if the blue attire comprises a ralph lauren polo shirt...

I don't usually read/post in this area of the board, but I couldn't resist.
The guys in Sigma Pi currently have the house on South Vienna. They voluntarily moved out of a house on Louisiana Street right after Homecoming because of substantial structural problems (the place I believe Acacia colony is residing and the building is about to fall over). Tech bought the land where the former house was on the corner of Everett/Mississippi and made a parking lot out of it in September.
The Chapter has had its national charter since December 8, 2001 and has remained a student organization in good standings. However, the Chapter never joined the Tech IFC, and received the blessings of our nationals to not be required to do so based on the poor conditions of the Greek system on campus.
I knew a the house was gone Lum and I knew the chapter folded I just didn't know the details on what happened to the house. There are some strong alumni that are interested. I'm sure the other fraternity alums are not so sad to see us go, but for those of us that are Tekes it's a tough blow. It's a shame to have something that was so strong when we were there to die like it did.
Crap! I knew I forgot someone. I was trying to think of everyone too. oh well.
Well...
You are partially correct in that the Chapter became a "provisional" or whatever member of IFC for a couple of quarters year before last. This was a ill-advised move by the administration of the time and had little support from the alumni of the Chapter. Their bid was subsequently rejected.
There were many events that happened when the colony was re-established in 1999 that led the Chapter down the path it has been on for the past several years. As a youngster that wasn't around for all that, you have no clue why Sigma Pi wasn't in IFC in the first place. I'd be more than happy to share history with anyone who cares to hear it.

I thought Kappa Sigma was the only fraternity left on campus.

Where is your house on S. Vienna?
I have worked with several IFCs in different parts of the country, and I can tell you they are all EXACTLY the same. They were originally intended to be chamber of commerce for the Greek system, but the people on the boards inevitably put some very socialist rules in place so everyone can be the same and no one gets their feelings hurt. I do not have any affiliation with Sigma Pi, but not being associated with IFC is probably not a bad thing.
