From Chris29: if you were coach...

    what would you do?

I think I would have kept Burnett out of the Friday night starting spot. That was the difference in this game, because lost in this debacle is the fact that Richard was a pitching star!

Ya think? There is no way Burnett should be the starting pitcher on another Friday night for us. Move him to Sundays or in relief, but continuing to start him on Fridays over and over with the same results is a coaching error. IMHO

That's only Burnett's third Friday start. The other two were against McNeese and Arkansas. He also started the Wednesday game at Baylor, made a relief appearance against ULL and started the 4th game at Nevada. Pitched pretty well at Nevada despite giving up five runs.

But I agree, he hasn't proven he's got what it takes to be a Friday starter. He's going to be a closer in the pros, might as well let him take over that role now. Richard proved tonight that he's a viable option as a midweek starter, we've got LeBreton and Bradshaw -- two lefties -- that can give us a few starts, Moseley has pitched pretty well, and Jericho is our #1 right now. But you can't start Jericho on Friday because then you really can't play him in the outfield on Saturday with a sore arm.

No, that was Burnett's 3rd Friday start THIS YEAR. We saw this a bit last year also. For some reason (obviously psychologically) he isn't ready to be the Friday starter. Sim should put him in a different situation to break up the negative mojo.

The rest of your post is spot on.

A closer who can't consistently throw strikes? Not on my team.
