    ESPN:
    Santa Clara hires Gonzaga coach
South Carolina someone or other resigns
Boston College coach resigns after 15 seasons

    Yahoo:
Someone is "rebuilding" Southern Illinois' program!!??!!
    McFerrin named Memphis women's coach
    Toledo hires Evansville coach Cullop
Illini women's hoops signs four more, bolsters…

I was going to say if you didn't think TSpoon and Tech were deserving of one of these headlines you were an idiot, but you are an idiot so there's no need to say that. This is news in the world of women's basketball - more so than any of these other headlines. TSpoon is one of the greatest players of all time and the Techsers are one of the greatest programs... Oh, and these stories, head coaching hire stories, always end with PENDING THE APPROVAL OF THE BOARD or whatever, so that's not the reason.

And now that the top story is BARMORE going to Baylor, it sure would be nice to counter balance that with TSPOON joing Tech -- AND JUST SO YOU KNOW, SHE'S ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH not ASSISTANT. That's an important title differential.
Why the venom at Tech? After her story was released via email, a member of the Tech media relations staff made a contact to a old college chum who works at the Worldwide Leader asking that the 'Spoon story get some extra juice.
I think that shows a unique effort.
Why don't you contact ESPN with your feelings?

The appeal of the Barmore to Baylor story is due to the statue of Leon Barmore and the novelty that a former highly successful head coach is going to work for a successful head coach that was a former player and assistant coach of the former head coach. Now, how is that for clarifying this mess?
Yes, but within the smaller world of collegiate WBB & WNBA this SHOULD be news on a bigger scheme. No, I'm not asking for a front page article on USA Today because, as U said, the two parties involved aren't deserving. Still, given that the Techsters were one of the pioneers of WBB & 'Spoon not only was one of the pieces of that puzzle, she was a WNBA All-Star. I've seen other headlines about how prominent alumni return home to "give back" to their alma mater so why is this different? Karl got more press than this when he joined up w/the Dunkin' Dawgs ( of course, he kicked in some serious $$ to the program & I thank him for that!! ) & outside of his playing years w/the team, the men's team has hardly been a blip on the NCAA radar screen. He was mentioned because of who he is ( well deserved, I might add ).
I WILL grant ya that the KM/LB story is very unique. Not only 2 Hall of Famers working together BUT the interesting twist of the former coach now working for his former player!!
Much like MOST things on this board, it's over & done so let's move on ( & I'M one of the WORST @ hanging onto the past glory years of the Techsters! ) & hope that both LB & 'Spoon have success in their endeavors.

Regardless, now that the Barmore coaching announcement is out there, it sure would be great if we could make a big to-do about TSpoon now so it doesn't look like we're dead. Side by side headlines on espn would look pretty nice -- Barmore takes position at Baylor. Former Techster takes Associate head coach position at Louisiana Tech...

    Please??
fyi -- i got a press release from malcolm regarding spoon, and we ran it in the town talk (which rarely gets done, but spoon was a big enough name to warrant). malcolm doesn't control what we do, and he certainly doesn't control what people in the national media do. he put the information out there, and it's up to the wire services to determine if they want to run it.

It is not too late to push this story again. Might have even more interest nationally now. It would be great to get some Leon quotes on the Spoon hire. Merge the stories together. Get some attention. Leon is a Spoon fan, so I bet he would give some great comments.

Very good points, if Toledo and Southern Illnois are getting press surely we could have gotten national media coverage for hiring an ex-Allstar and all american as an associate head coach.

Yes, and there are a lot of people that follow it. No, it is not followed as heavily as men's sports, but it is at the top of Women's sports. Is there something wrong with that?

I am bumping this again, because I think it is important. Just a great interview with Leon right now about his decision, what he thinks the future of the Techsters is, what he thinks of Spoon, Mulkey, Baylor, etc.... That is a newsworthy story that involves Baylor, Tech, and 3 huge names in WBB. It will have some legs.
