I prefer Irish over Scotch when I'm able to have a drink. I'd found a good Jameson awhile back that I bought for Rabiddawg when I went over for a visit one weekend thinking we'd share it. I got one drink out of it before he hid it somewhere in his cabinet. It was pretty good and fit in my budget considering it would last a while as I'm not able to drink very often. If I had the bank Guiss has, I'd go with his recommendations. I bought some Bushmills Black once, and it wasn't bad either.
In light of the current season, I'm glad to bump this thread. Had my first pour of Booker's tonight. Amazingly smooth at 127 proof. Well balanced and easy to drink neat.
I will smash your face into a car windshield, and then take your mother, Dorothy Mantooth out for a nice seafood dinner, and never call her again.
Glad to see i didnt have to search for this thread.
Recently i tried Blanton's. Really liked it but must admit that i bought it because of the cool race horse on the cork.
Homecoming i splurged and bought a bottle of Jameson Gold Reserve. Set me back $93. I dont know if any booze is worth that but it sure was good. My new favorite irish whiskey, thanks dd.
I could use some recommendations for very good Islay scotches (for a friend). Thus far, I have bought him a Laguvalin 16 and a Bunnahadubain 18. He's gone through hell recently and I'm just trying to get done good scotches to share when we talk.

We drank a bottle of this at Thanksgiving. At first I wasn't impressed but after a few minutes, the flavor comes through and gets better as you continue. I have to say, it is the best I have ever sipped.

Then you'd best get to work collecting the figurines! It really is a good bourbon.
The only new whiskey I have tried recently was an Irish called Kilbeggan. I’d give it a thumbs up. If you are looking for a good value it was only 19.99/bottle.
Blanton’s (and many other popular low volume bourbons) are starting to get really hard to source in Houston and retailers are starting to price them accordingly. The bourbon craze has gone full tilt insane. Pick em up while you can.
There are lots of good options in the 30-40 price range and you can still do quite well for cheaper, so I rarely bother to splurge on a more expensive bottle of bourbon. The difference in taste just doesn’t justify it like it does for some other spirits. Colonel Taylor Small Batch is more or less my go to because I really like it’s viscosity (reminds me of Black Maple Hill, another option that has become almost impossible to find on the retail market since the craze really took off).
When we aren’t slinging cocktails, one of my favorite sipping spirits is Del Maguey Chichicapa Mezcal. The Chichicapa of their single village series has a lot going on between the deep sweet citrus front and meat smoke and chocolate linger. It is a medium price mezcal, $70-80, but worth it IMO.
I've got one of these as a backup. I found an out of the way liquor store that has the Blanton's hidden away in the back room and what seems to be a good supply of the the Eagle Rare. If all else fails, I havq a large bottle of Woodford Reserve sitting on the bar.
