I like his stance on the middle east better.
I like his stance on the economy better.
I like his stance on health care better.
I like his stance on education and technology better.
Those are only some general level things.
The only thing McCain has over Obama, to me, is he supports nuclear energy.
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt
Wake up, my fellow republicans. Barack Obama does have a platform. Yes change is the summary of what that platform is, but he has given a lot of details about what change his presidency will bring. Too much, in fact. He has even talked about change in the decoration for the white house. Regardless, the idea of universal health care, Iraqi troop withdrawal, and other liberal stances he has taken is very attractive to liberal America. If Republicans are going to win, they have to realize that Obama is running a DANG good campaign that has style and, most importantly, substance. And just a thought... We AREN'T going to win on style.
I'm not being a jerk. I was just curious. I just disagree with him especially on the middle east and health care.
Without getting into the watered down media hoopla........does it not bother you some of the things and actions he has presented toward the US? Not pledging allegiance, etc.
Thats why I gave you an answer, whereas had someone like cartek asked me, I probably wouldve said something like "because I think its time we had a brother in the white house" :-P
Nah. Mainly because the pledge thing was overblown and way over-exaggerated. Basically they got a hold of *one* video with him not putting his hand over his heart, and played it over and over. He still *said* the pledge, and has lead the pledge in the senate on multiple occasions, complete with putting his hand over his heart.does it not bother you some of the things and actions he has presented toward the US? Not pledging allegiance, etc.
The lapel pin thing is another one. They bashed him for not wearing a lapel pin of the flag, and yet McCain doesnt wear one either. Theyre probably made in china anyways.
Basically, a lot of what you read about Obama from right wing news outlets is going to be exaggerated to make him sound either unpatriotic, or vastly inexperienced. Theyre going to twist words, and present things way out of context.
Yes, Obama is inexperienced as far as national politics goes. But I would rather trust a smart man with ideas I agree with than an experienced man without any of his own ideas, who is following a party line I dont agree with.

And now Obama wants to give everyone $1000 out of the profits the oil companies made. Guess what? Oil prices will skyrocket and and there will be no oil companies located withing the US. Socialism at its best? What next? Nationalize the oil companies. He is telling the poor what they want to hear, not what they need to hear. This is one scary individual.
The polls have evened and I predict McCain will pull ahead. People are only now starting to think who will lead this country and you have only heard a very little about Obama. People will start thinking now about who the president is and not either drinking the Kool Aid or following the crowd.
IMHO, Hillary will wait in the background and not help Obama get elected. She will quietly work the female voters knowing that her best chance is to get McCain elected because his chances of a second term is not that great knowing his age. Then she will be poised in four years and will not run the same campaign she ran this time. The Clintons are not fools.
Not gonna happen. Especially if McCain keeps running ads that do nothing but mock Obama. People are going to get very tired of his high school student council campaign tactics. In a time where we face serious issues that need real answers, they want a leader who is providing solutions (Obama), and not one whose only campaign slogan is "Look at Obama! He's more popular than Britney! WHAAA"

Obama Aide Concedes 'Dollar Bill' Remark Referred to His Race
By MARK MOONEY
Aug. 1, 2008
http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/Politi...5495348&page=1
Sen. Barack Obama's chief strategist conceded that the Democratic presidential candidate was referring to his race when he said Republicans were trying to scare voters by suggesting Obama "doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills."
Middle East:
-Listen to intelligence on Iran's nuclear arsenal
-Try diplomatic solutions with Iran first
-Begin withdrawing troops from Iraq in a manner that still keeps the stability, but forces Iraq to begin supporting itself
-Refocus on Afghanistan, the real home of a lot of terrorists
Economy:
-The gas tax idea is stupid.
-Removing some tax breaks from oil companies, and using that money as a tax rebate. (Still iffy on the tax rebate thing, but since both candidates are likely to keep it up, I like Obama's idea on how to pay for it better than the Republican idea: Oh, it'll magically pay for itself)
-I think offshore drilling is a political ploy that wont actually save us any money. Republicans are just trying to convince Americans it is the answer to all our gas problems, because they know Obama wont go for offshore drilling because *he* knows it's not going to do anything. But at least Obama is willing to compromise, using an idea that I've been behind for a while- to open up limited offshore drilling, but require a large portion of the alternative energies ideas be put on the bill too.
- Removing income tax from seniors making under $50k. I think seniors will be faced with a LOT of difficulties if McCain is elected, which is quite ironic. I dont like how the Republicans seem to like cutting back on programs that help seniors.
Education & Technology
-Reform NCLB. Because it sucks. Those may not be his exact words, but I think it's a pretty succinct paraphrasing.
-Focus education on math and science. Students dont care anymore, and our national test score averages in these fields are slipping way behind.
-I like his idea of a college tuition credit in exchange for community service. A lot of people cant get the grades or test scores to get scholarships for college, but they can still get accepted. But without scholarships they cant attend. It's a shame that there may be people out there with the grades and desire to go to college who cant afford it.
-Double the funding of scientific research. I think this is extremely important. You guys may say "Oh, if the research was important enough, they could find a grant from a company," but it doesnt work that way. Sometimes research doesnt have immediate returns that look attractive to customers, but can lead the way to great things.
If we rely on the private sector for scientific research funding alone, we will never see a lot of truly great things, because companies will be less likely to fund risky ideas.
- Deploy next-gen broadband. Out of most developed nations in the world, our broadband is some of the slowest. I want a president who understands why our technology needs to be up to date. And not a president who refers to people who use email as "tech freaks" and doesnt even know what broadband is. As a computer science major and a web developer, having a president that wants to keep us technologically advanced is very important to me.
Healthcare:
- Obama's national healthcare plan is not "Free Socialized Healthcare for all." He wants to provide access to healthcare for everyone, with guaranteed eligibility. While it still costs money, he *will* provide subsidies to assist those who need help paying for it.
No one else's healthcare plan will change, and no one will be forced into a national healthcare plan.
- Reducing costs by investing in Health IT Systems and increasing competition in the drug market
In general, on top of having better ideas when it comes to the issues, I also trust Obama more to react intelligently and consider all options before acting. McCain might do the same thing, but he's been stained by the current administration who picks a goal, and then pursues it regardless of facts or how many lies they have to tell.
