I think a dream conference should be the SWC redux
    Tech
    Tulane
    ULL
    Houston
    SMU
    TCU
    Rice
    UNT
    Tulsa
    UTEP

with Arkansas State or Southern Miss as a posibility. Bowls would be in Shreveport, Fort Worth, Houston and New Orleans. It would be a four bowl, four NCAA tourney conference with a strong contract with Fox Sports Net Southwest. Of course one can only dream.:icon_wink:

I saw on the CUSA board today that ECU's AD doesn't like the geography of CUSA. I don't know what he can do about it, but it is good to see the turmoil. When he's talking about the geography, he's referring to travelling to Texas (SMU, Rice, Houston, and UTEP) and Oklahoma (Tulsa).

I really think our best hope is these teams coming back to the WAC.

He wants two regional super divisions of CUSA. He wants to expand big time. Similar to the old WAC-16

Re: Yoda's Vision for the WAC

I was at SMU doing grad work when they bolted for CUSA. They left the WAC for a perceived "eliteness" (there is that silly word again) of the CUSA over the WAC. This was the time when CUSA was making big TV contracts and actively seeking new bowls. They were on the rise literally. I know SMU's 10 year plan is to be in a BCS conference. They have said that numerous times (AD and Coaches). Until something is done about the pitiful state of this BCS nonsense, the BcS system and football is king. So if the WAC ever became a BCS conference, SMU would leave CUSA in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately we currently have a commissioner who can't even keep his own school from making statements about bolting the first chance they get, has not pursued any new bowl tie ins, and has succeeded to be the one person who made Oakes look good at his job. Our commissioner should be out capitalizing on our back to back BCS bowls and CWS championship by adding TV contracts, more bowl tie-ins, and eventually putting the WAC in position for full BcS membership. The way to shore up your conference is not "Benson plan" making people pay lots of money to leave, but continually making your conference a place where schools WANT TO BE!

I have thought that they could make that happen for awhile now. That makes the most sense in the world is to form the SouthWest Conference again with these schools. Man would that be great!

Wonder why they did not think of that before joining? Must be a AD thing all over. Tech is in the same boat.

ECU was already in there. They just presumably got out-voted on the Texas/Tulsa invites.

    UNT issues

If UNT had accepted an invite three years ago, it could have destroyed the Sun Belt.

I think UNT feels a lot of loyalty towrads the core group of MTSU, Ark St, and the Cajuns.

Also UNT worries that the MWC could invite Fresno and Boise and destableize the WAC.

What if CUSA invites Troy and MTSU does that not destabalize the Sunbelt?

TCU will NOT be a part of a conference that includes SMU or UNT. It is also very doubtful that SMU would join any conference that includes: UNT, ULL, La Tech or Arkansas State. SMU students and alumni prefer to travel where there are "other" attractions (Gambling, Professional Sports, Concerts, etc.) such as New Orleans, Houston, Memphis, etc.

My suggestion is to connect with the Eastern members of Conference USA and the future FBS schools that are putting $$$ into their programs. South Alabama, FAU, Middle Tenn, etc.

I wouldn't mind being in a conference with WKU, as long as we were pretty much at the western end and they were pretty much the northern end.

SMU doesn't travel anywhere. Even in their heyday they traveled poorly. They were also one of the members of the WAC that were pushing the hardest for us to be invited back in 2000.

SMU doesn't even travel to their HOME games!! It's a shame such a nice stadium goes to waste.
