    Fundraising

Anyone got any ideas for a way the Blue could raise some money? We have several things this season such as tailgating and more paint we need to get and I really don't won't to have to pay all of this out of pocket all season.

Our tailgating we are trying to get up where it should be. Last season we were fairly weak turnout with most people showing up just to paint. This year we want to have a better experience that will attract more people.

Well unfortunately we didn't collect any dues last year. The year before that we didn't collect dues from everyone. This year there will be more of an iron fist.

Ha that is a new one. You think that would make us enough money to keep the Blue around until you come here?

    I'll think up some stuff.

How much cash are we looking at here? I can help fund raise.

Well all it really depends on is having the money to do all the things we want to do. I want to have atleast $500 in a bank account for us to rely on. That means if we set dues at $25 then we need 20 members (to actually pay). $500 won't really last too far through football season but if we had that I might be able to scrounge through my own money to cover the extra costs.

It all depends. If we don't get $500 then we will be having hamburgers and hotdogs at the tailgate (or hoping guisslapp is coming in town and might make us something nice). I might spend a little bit more money around homecoming and make some of my dad's famous gumbo.

I got some ideas for other fund raisers. Some of them might be a little hard to pull off. Some of them might not make any money. Our biggest asset is our relationship to current and previous players so I am trying to find ways we could use that.

I think dues should be our plan C. Try two fund raisers (plans A and B) first. If those don't raise the $500 or so dollars then we could charge like $10 per person. No one would have a problem with that at all I don't believe.

By the way I've got my friend that's a high school senior coming to the MSU game to paint. His older brother is going to Tech in the winter. I'm trying to get him to go to the game but that $40 isn't very easily paid when you don't have another job yet.

Ok Mr. Big City Lawyer, how much can I put you and your engineer brother down for?

Actually that leads me to a question. (Not to pad his ego) but it appears DFM was right a few years ago when he said it isn't worth it to be an NPO. We would have had to pay (I believe) $500 just to keep that so we decided not to renew it this year. But what kind of tax benefits can we offer people who are willing to donate to our group?

Counselor Goodman would be disappointed in your decision to not be a NPO. He was thrilled that you guys were making such strides and came to him to set-up the NPO. He came to my place immediately to fill me in on your progress. On the other hand, DFM is Da Man when it comes to financial decisions so I guess it all depends on your dedication, expectation levels, and organizational style/skill. Did you ever think of contacting a TECH supporter that owns a meat market, say in Shreveport, to help you guys out on your tailgating needs? BTW: What, on the Good Man's green earth is wrong with hotdogs and hamburgers?

Haha no we didn't think of that. Actually nothing is wrong with hamburgers and hotdogs. We plan on doing it a few games this season. But we also want to diversify a little. Hamburgers and hotdogs are the easiest way to go though.

About the NPO. It was something that sounds good on paper but unfortunately we didn't have a real plan after that. Not to make excuses or anything but it didn't help that our treasurer all of a sudden bolted without warning on us before the start of last school year. Before she left she told us we had a certain amount of money left in the account so we were planning on purchasing some supplies. Well it turns out she was wrong and we ended up overdrawing the account. On top of that because none of our new officers got properly transfered to the account, none of us knew about it until we went by one day to set up a new treasurer.

As you can see we had some serious problems last year. This year we are ready to start over new. We finally found a person we can trust and is actually competent for our new treasurer position. And maybe one day if the leadership of the Blue feels it is the right move, they might once again try the NPO. But until we atleast prove we are raising enough funds to justify it, we are better off without it.
