I hope we keep Spangler for awhile...we've gone through too many DC the past few years.

yeah, John Lovett from Clemson...he left and went to Bowling Green. Looked him up...he stayed 2 yrs at BG, now he's at UNC as a Special Teams Coordinator.

One of those guys, either Smith or Rose looked to have the defense improving a bit before he either left or was fired. I can't remember which one. Either way we are better off with Spangler. He's awesome.

We went to a 3-4 defense with Tim Rose in '04, team finished at 6-6. He left and went to Toledo. Randy Bates took over, kept the same scheme and we went 7-4. Bates left for Northwestern at the end of July of 06. George Darlington took over and the defense went down hill from there. Kinda suck for Darlington to take over the duties of DC in such short notice especially right before the players reported to camp.

Now we have Spangler. We've gone back to the 4-3 Defense. Hopefully he stays for a couple of years. I really like him. He's one animated guy.

Tom Masella was one of the best that Tech has had in the past few years. His defense was the reason the Dawgs won the WAC in 2001. Just my opinion obviously but he was a good one that sadly got away.

Coach Mas was a great D-Coord and it was actually a sad day when he left. Being assigned to him taught me a lot about the Defensive side of the game and I gaind a huge respect for the guys that wanted to kill the guy with the ball. I remember his last day at Tech. We talked about many things, one being that he was hired with JO telling him that he would be the next head coach at Tech because Bick was on his way out. He said that he liked the potential that Tech had and he believed the crap JO fed him. As I was leaving, he offered me a job at UMass as his assistant after I graduated. He's now the HC at Fordham.

Bicknell/Oakes/DR didn't turn the money loose to pay them. I like Spangler too. If the saying "you get what you pay for" was ever applicable, coach's salaries are over 2 times what they were.

Hell no. But Masella accepting a job under those terms is shady, especially when Bicknell is supposed to be his boss not JO.

This was the same condition that Gary Crowton was hired as well. When he took the job as OC he knew that he would be the next HC.
