it certainly does seem strange, but have any records been broken on the 50m races? not that i have seen. it could be the depth of the pool. wake wouldn't be a factor on a 50m race, but it becomes a factor once you have to turn and swim back the way you just came. a deeper pool would allow more room for the force to dissapate. i don't think it's the width of the pool. this isn't the first time an 8-lane meet has been swam in a 10-lane pool.
