very nice and much needed at Joe Aillet.

they don't sell out either, but they have been to a bowl game for 10+ consecutive seasons.

    Re: Why we lose recruits

What is disappointing is that they have almost 28,000 season tickets sold. I wonder how many of their alumni openly support (and financially support) Alabama, Ole Miss, Miss St., or LSU over their own school. I believe Dooley is on the right track, we didn't get to where we are over night and unfortunately we won't get out of it over night.

More than you might think...they've got a TON of students. Do they make students buy tickets?

You should see if LSU will let you guys set up a La Tech bake sale at their home games. That could help pump more funds into your overall budget.

You should leach off of Florida, LSU and UGA and let their success pump dollars into your budget so you can sustain your mediocrity.

Ooops! Sorry. You already do that.

I cant beleive y'all have wasted those ka'billion $$$'s that the other SEC's have had to give you over the years. After all that and you're still gonna get that butt kicked in Aug 30th? You should be ashamed.

    Re: Why we lose recruits

You know, when we start a thread titled "Why we lose recruits" we should expect trolls and flames in abundance, much the way my and/or others setup titles inflame the same on the Political Forum. That type of a question and the fodder that results can really do little good on the open forum and be much better served on the Recruiting Forum where it probably belongs. Besides this has been thrashed over thousands of times on BB&B in all it's glory the last 10+ years.

You should see if LSU would let you play their women's softball team or something because you can't compete either... MSU football is a damm joke in the SEC

    Re: Why we lose recruits

I'll say it again: MSU shouldn't act like a big bad SEC team when they have a winning record against the same number of SEC teams as we do.

Thank God for Vandy! (ours is bama)

I wouldn't call 16,000 students a "ton", but you will see LSU, Ole Miss, etc., stuff on campus.

Students do not buy tickets, they are included in their activity fees. This is the way to go for us for a couple of reasons. 1) We have a large female student population (4 to 1) and a large population of students from outside the US. And its a good deal for students. The fee is slightly lower than full priced football season tickets, but gets them into any activity on campus, whether its football, tennis, music or arts.

Until about five years ago, the student section at football games was actually quite poor. About 2,000 who rarely stayed for the entire game. It was a couple of students who rallied the student body to the cause. Today we will have 6,000 students who stay for the entire game, and who are loud and very much into the game. THEY are the reason for the current CUSA rule that prevents student sections from being directly behind the vistors bench.

I'd love to leech off a CBS-TV/SEC football AND basketball contract.

i don't know who "go gold" is but i am glad this usm fan posted this. i think all universities trying to climb the ladder face these issues. so...usm has students cheering for lsu and ole miss. i'm sure fresno has usc fans at their school; toledo has ohio state fans at their school, etc. we will always fight this "trying to win over the casual fan" issue. winning, improving facilities, etc. will all help, in time. usm has 16,000 students to our 10,000. i think that the student body support at tech the past five or so years has greatly improved. it is much stronger than it was twenty years ago when i was at tech. it will be interesting to see how many students are there on august 30th (several days before classes). a big student turn out is a great sign, as it means kids made an effort to be there instead of just wandering over to the stadium on a saturday because they had nothing better to do.
