Bolt just won the 200 meters in 10.30, beating michael johnsons mark of 10.32.
im no math expert, but i tried to convert his 10.69 in the 100m to a 40 yard dash.
i came up with 3.91

I am thinking someone could analyze tape and at least make a rough guess as to how fast he actually ran the 40 out of the gate ... All the slow time is at the offset. I am curious what his top speed was on the back end.
Yeah, but all they did was take his average speed and apply it over a shorter distance.
Like Lum said, his average speed would be lower in th 40 yd dash due to him not having "room to stretch his legs", so to speak, and hit that next gear that has him pull completely away from the field. The ridiculous top speed he hits on the back end of his runs wouldn't really be there in the 40.
I'm surprised, actually, that someone hasn't broken down the film and recorded what his splits were at different distances. It would be relatively easy to see exactly what he ran in the 40 should one have the right technology.
Wonder if any NFL team will throw a few million his way to let them try to teach him to catch a football. At 6'6" and with that speed he would be near impossible to cover. I don't know what kind of money a person can make being a track star, but I would think NFL dollars would be much higher. Of course, we all know that raw speed does not a reciever make.
I have to admit that it would be fun to see Bolt go deep to catch a Jamarcus Russel bomb. Russel might be the only QB in the NFL who could hang out there far enough to let Bolt run under it while still going full speed. Of course, that's given you have at least 60 yards of field to work with.
I've already heard someone on radio comment how they would like to see him in pads running a fly route.
