Why the answer to this poll is obvious. Total metal count is what it is all about. We won that. If we'd had the most gold's and not the most total metals, then that would have been the most important. I'm a flag waving American - and what we do best is what is the most important.....besides sorta looked like the Chinese cheated when necessary to enhance their metal count!

If you take out the medals where judges scores were involved the gold count was in out favor. Straight up competition like track and field and swimming we won more gold. In events like gymnastics the Chicon's had a big edge.

I say it is medals/$ spent. And I'm guessing Jamaca wins there (although Mongolia won a gold - I wonder how much their Olympic budget it).

Actually I think it is about individual competition and representing your country with honor.

How many medals could we have won? What is the percentage of medal winners?

Now that's an interesting idea. I wonder if anyone has run those numbers.

I like a point system, but I prefer 5-3-1 over 3-2-1. Two golds should be better than three silvers. And I would double the value for teams of 2-4 players and triple the value for teams of 5 or more.

    Re: Olympic Medal Poll

Heard a commentary comparing total gold medal winners that accounts for all members of a team sport. The US has 120 something gold medals compared to China's 80 or so.
