Are there any Tech financial advisors? I have a good bit of money to invest every month, and am being eaten alive by taxes. I'd prefer one in Monroe/West Monroe.

    This got me thinking...

What are y'all's thoughts about buying bonds when Tech has building projects (like, weren't there bonds issued for the latest UP development?)? Is this reasonable investing, or would it be essentially a "donation"?

Usually a bond issued for a State-owned entity would be considered some sort of municipal bond, and it would give you tax free interest. It is not a donation. If you give 1K and get 6 percent interest, you will make 60 dollars and pay no taxes on it.

Thanks. To clarify, what I meant by "donation" was whether such an investment would be viable or whether purchasing such a bond would have to be driven more by a desire to support the school. (Sort of like when you pay $15 for a box of cookie dough that you could get for $5 somewhere else. Technically a "purchase" but you buy it to support the cause.)

Very viable. Many people do it that have no care or interest in Tech, other than they want it to succeed so they can get their money.

What is the ABSOLUTE best thing that a 31 year old poor bbq restaurant owner can do with say $300 - $500 per month? What do I need to put it in to have retirement money since I am not in any type of employee 401 program? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not a guru per se, but I've always heard "Roth IRA" as the answer to that question when I posed my version of it (my wife is self-employed, as was I before I returned to school in 2005).

    Definitely get other opinions, though.

I would agree, Roth IRA allows tax-free growth, since the money you put in is after tax. It's also extremely flexible in what you can invest your money in. It has a annual limit, which I think is $5,000.

I am absolutely jacked about Citi offering a Roth 401K now. I want to pay the taxes now because by the time I am 60, the tax rate may be 45 percent for any American with money!
