    Mississippi State

    MSU 2
    #9 Auburn 3

How is that for a score? Talk about some defense (on BOTH sides). Even Southeastern hung 10 on MSU. Sounds like MSU defense has stepped it up a notch - either that or Auburn is over-ranked.

Auburn scored a field goal and MSU got a safety. That was it. It would have sure helped us if MSU could have, at least, kicked a field goal.

Using the Baxter logic of football, we beat MSU by a greater margin than Auburn and are therefore better than Auburn.

It will be interesting to see what the BCS computers do with us here in three weeks. It'd be nice if MSU and Kansas had really good years, but they both lost this week.

Yeah, the Kansas loss was a big one. MSU losing 3-2 to #9 didn't hurt us near as much. Kansas needs to get their act together. I think they can be a great team, but they have to play "all out" to win the games that they are going to need to win this year.

MSU has the worst offense in the country and Auburn maybe has the second worst. They'll get destroyed by Flagship U next week.

That was some God-awful football on display last night in Starkville. It wasn't 'great defense'.

in my opinion, no way auburn gets destroyed by lsu next week. i don't think lsu will score much on auburn either. i hope auburn takes it to them.

Yeah, but you have to score to win. Not sure how much Auburn is capable of scoring right now. I think they are a lot like Michigan right now (except better), once they get the folks in place to run the offense, watch out. But until then, it is going to be tough sledding.

You don't have to wait 3 weeks...look at the Sagarin ELO-Chess ratings used for the Bogus Championship rankings...Tech is at 106 (96 of the 119 FBS teams). Mississippi State is at 87 (85 FBS).

All you need to know about the way those rankings have to be watered down to eliminate victory margin is to look at UCLA. After losing 59-0 and being beaten worse than that by BYU, the Bruins are STILL ranked #18 in Sagarin ELO-Chess. That is ahead of teams like Missouri and East Carolina. In Sagarin's Predictor ratings that use victory margin exclusively, UCLA is at 71.

this game was freakin' awful. it wasn't great defense. it was just awful offense. we all knew msu sucked on offense, but auburn's experiment with the spread offense has just been a downright failure so far!

    Question Re: Mississippi State

LSU won't be helped by their own lack of a proven QB, either. Still, look who Auburn played enroute to building those defense stats ( ULM; USM & MSU ). Those three teams are a combined 4-5 & each team hasn't really beaten anyone ( ULM's best win was 37-15 over Alabama A&M; USM won 51-21 over ULL & MSU beat SLU 34-10 ).
Like AB said, the Baxter logic says that we should defeat SLU handily ( we BETTER!! ) We beat MSU by 8 points & they beat SLU by 24 so I'm looking for a 32 point ( minimium ) whippin'!!!
