    Al Davis

Wow. I'm almost speechless about what this guy is doing.

Firing a coach is one thing, but trying to cook up some "cause" and deny him the rest of his contract is way out there..even for a guy like Davis who is already way out there.

Moreover, NFL coaches are a small and pretty close knit group. It was already going to be hard enough to get another bigtime coach in there before Davis is out of the picture, but with this move he has assured himself nothing but losing seasons and a carousel of so-so coaches until he is compeletly out of the day-to-day operations of the Oakland Raiders.

I have officially lost any respect I had for Al Davis.

They were talking about this on 97.7. It was a very dumb move to fire a coach during the season, much less over the phone and early in the season. I hope davis has the hardest time finding someone to work for him because he just came across as the biggest jack... in the whole league, and I thought tom benson was bad at times............

Al Davis reminds me of the Rolling Stones. They've all made a pack with the devil by drinking the blood of virgins to stay alive. Heck, throw Alan Colmes in there as well.

A lot of the media guys are backing Davis on this one. Seems Kiffin was very much to blame in all of this.

Davis has gone through 5 coaches in 6 years and the team still blows. The buck stops with him since he is so involved in everything.

I don't hold anything against him in the firing. Owners will always hire and fire coaches, just as fans and the media will always question moves made by the owners and coaches.

My problem is that he never really gave Kiffin a chance and now he is trying to fire him for "cause". Meaning that he is not being fired for his performance on the field, but because he violated the terms of his contract. This is just a way of trying to keep from paying him the money he owes him, and it seems like a personal thing. In his press conference yesterday he really made an effort to discredit Kiffin, which will sit very badly with a lot of coaches around the league. He also refused to let Kiffin fire Rex Ryan as DC in the off season, and their defense has been horrible this season.

I'm not a Raiders fan, and this couldn't happen to a better group of people. But, I doubt Davis will be able to bring in a top notch coach after pulling this stunt.

Is an absolute head case and a coach would have to be crazy or desperate to go coach the Raiders with him there.

The for cause arguement worked for Davis in Shanahan's firing, as per Chris Mortensen. He said Shanahan never got his money.

So why not do it again? Davis is still an idiot, imo.

Yeah, at lunch today I saw on ESPN's poll that 85 percent of Americans think Davis is at fault and 15 percent say Kiffin. Pretty overwhelming.

What are the Raider's fans saying?

It was probably a mistake to hire him in the first place.

They said the consensus is that Raider fans did not like Kiffin's coaching, but blame Al Davis for continually messing everything up.

There had to be other people with better credentials than him to hire. If I remember correctly the press was questioning the move when this was announced.
