I have read this board for years as a Tech fan without posting often, but this Joe the Plumber story really hits home with me and I just keep thinking about it. I will start out by saying that I am a registered Republican and this election is a no brainer for me. Joe the Plumber was not a tipping point, but it is really disturbing.
Has this country reached a point that a family with a small business and a combined income of $250K is considered to have too much success? Let me say that my wife and I work hard and make a very good living, but at this point in our mid to early careers, we have not reached a combined income of 250K. As a matter of fact we may or may not ever reach that level of income, but that is beside the point. The mistic of America is all about limitless possibilities.
Like alot of people on this board I have worked hard and made sacrafices to be where I am in life. I have had a small business for 4 years now and like many families my wife has a full time career as well. We have two small kids and it just takes both of us working to get it done. As a house hold we are well over half way to Obama's definition of 'rich', but it just doesn't go as far as you would think these days. If, God willing, I have money to spare at some future point in life, good for me; I will have earned it and owe an explaination to no one.
Today I started seeing stories bashing Joe the Plumber. They said he is not a licensed plumber (He said he does residential work without a plumbers license, we all know this guy, he is a handyman and I would not have had my roof repaired without one after Gustav. Everyone with a license blew me off), he is behind in his taxes (even good people can get behind with their finances, its called life) and they even said that Joe is not his first name, it is his middle name. I mean, come on.
I related to this guy even more after all this. So what if he inflated his immediate reality, he was defending his dream to own a small business regardless of odds of him making it happen. Not everyone who works hard is going to be rich even by Obama's standard, but part of being an American is dreaming too big, right? If my wife and I never make more than 250k, I want it to be because I missed an opportunity, made a decision to pass on one or I made it a priority to work less and spend more time with my wife and kids. Socialism is not for me and I don't think I am alone in thinking this.
^Excellent post.

It is wrong for the government to decide who has enough....I do agree with this statement, but people on this board make it seem like the republican tax plan is not structured like the democratic tax plan.... In both instances the more you earn the more you pay in taxes.... What candidate for pres has a tax plan stating that taxes will be determined on the amount of governmental assistance you get?
Look, I'm no big fan of McCain and no big fan of Rino's, but on one hand we have Obama who is a socialist. I know what we will get from a socialist. McCain for all his short comings is no socialist. Therefore I'm voting McCain. I don't give a rats ass weather there is a D or and R beside a candidates name. I prefer an L but we haven't reached a point where that is viable yet. With a vote for McCain I feel we just slow down the race toward socialism, with Obama we put it in high gear.
Someone needs to slap you upside the head! Your last two posts almost defy comment and read like somethin BHO would say...its only 3%, indeed. HISTORY tells us that the Democrat will raise taxes far more than they tell us they will; the Bushes have both been Northeastern Republicans (i.e., liberal Republicans) much to my dislike. Clinton pledged to CUT taxes but decided to raise them once elected. HISTORY is a great teacher.
The media keeps telling us that no matter who is elected all taxes will go up; McCain is no Bush. I do believe he will cut some budgets, kill some programs, and veto bills containing bullshit (aka pork). The media is banging the tax drum because they know it is one area that Republicans win on...so lets report that both are raising taxes and level the playing field for our boy BHO.
I'm an asshole! What's your excuse?

Don't forget, Joe the Plumber said I am looking at buying a business that makes $250k will you raise my taxes? The answer was yes. YES PERIOD. Barrak didn't need to get anymore information. IF I ____ will you raise my taxes? YES.
The other side of the story is when Obama says makes, he means takes in. A small business with a topline number of 250k or greater will get a tax increase. Unless you have some miracle for developing margin, if you can't take in over $250k you can't cover expenses after cost of goods sold.
When we hear makes over $250k we think adjusted gross income. That is just not the case with the socialists.
And to steal an anallogy on sociallism, I can take no credit for originality here. Lets say Sussie and Billy are in the 3rd grade. Sussie studies and makes an A. Billy sits on his arse and makes an F. But to be fair, they both get a C. Now, how fair is that.
Oh, but the guy's name is not really Joe and he's not really a plumber abd he doesn't even own a business and he has tax liens and he set BHO up! What a buch of whiney-assed liberal crybaby crap! The truth slips out...so let's slime the guy that got BHO to tell the truth!
