    We're not in the SWAC.

    But all the SWAC schools have bowling. And pretty much no one else in the area does. So we go where there's a tournament.

    Because it's the cheapest sport they could possibly have. They play in 5 or 6 tournaments a year, all within easy driving distance (Bossier City, Baton Rouge, Jackson, Houston, etc.), and there's only 7 people on the team and one coach. No managers, trainers, or anyone else to get a hotel room for. If they're not ranked in the Top 10 by the first of February, they shut it down because they don't have a chance to get picked for nationals; if they do manage to be highly ranked, they'll go play in one more tournament in hopes of getting an NCAA bid (only 8 teams are selected).

    Like Beaver-Dog said, it's a cheap way to comply with Title IX and NCAA rules. Oh, and we have to have a minimum of 16 sports to stay in Division I-A.
