    A concern

    Listening to the game Saturday...
Dave Nitz was talking with Benson about Conference realignment. He thought conference realignment would happen in the coming years with the Big East taking TWO of the C-USA teams.

Are we ready if and when this happens?

    Here is my fear:

ULL had 29,000 people at their last game
There school enrollment is going up
They are improving all of their facilities
This year they played TWO CUSA teams: UTEP and USM
They are in an area of population size that CUSA likes!
They will win the Sunbelt this year.
They are running a VERY effective marketing campaign to businesses, people, and casual fans.

I am scared that if we aren't ready the next CUSA team will come from south Louisiana, not north.

A very real concern. We need to take care of business, now.

The talk has been that our men's basketball program will be our ticket in. If we can get into the tournament a couple of times, we will be very attractive to CUSA.

I don't see that ULL or Tech have a clear advantage over each other.

    Be scared all you want.

Until we win and we win again and we win when we are supposed to win . . . our market base of potential fans is/are not coming to our games. We can't even get 25K for MState.

And, until then, the local TV and news media will not be forced to move us up any further on their LSU-dominated radar.

    -Our enrollment is up.
-Campus construction is blowing and going.
    -Our marketing efforts are expanding.
-We're getting a jumbotron next year so the gameday experience can go to the next level.
-The foundation is being set for a stronger LTAC.

Now, if we can just get a coach's TV show with good, quality highlights from each game . . .

But most of all, a six-game winning streak to end 2008 would not hurt at all.

    Just another humble opinion.

You should be concerned because you can't repair 14 years of ineptness in a year or 2. We have a long way to go just to get to where we should have been 5 or 6 years ago and then Dooley has to build it to where we should be today or in '09 or '10. There is so much to do and none of us really know how long we have to get there...

    I don't know about that.

Our enrollment dropped between 500-600 for 3 consecutive years to around 10,500ish. This year we were up around 300, maybe 500ish, but... I think that increase was a result of our new online classes/degrees. Somebody can dig up the numbers.

MBB hasn't done anything yet. Just hype so far. And this realignment will probably happen very soon, and we might not have a couple of chances to make some noise the tourney.

I agree about MBB. I believe we have the right man in Coach Rupp, and this could be great story within a year or two. I guess it's good to know that instead of relying on 105 nineteen-twenty year old guys to carry us into another conference, we will just rely on about dozen to do it.

    You mean relying on 9 19-23 year-olds..

Everybody else already had decent online offerings. Tech was really late to the online courses game and we are playing catch up. We got a bump in enrollment this fall because we rolled out a whole lot more online courses than we ever have.

    Troy goes CUSA before ULL.

Personally, as long as Boise and Fresno are in the WAC, we take our travel lumps and keep with it. The CUSA and Sunbelt gets the shaft on publicity even more than we do.

When Boise leaves, we need to be thinking about a jump.

Depends on who leaves and who's left to vote. If Tulsa, UTEP, SMU, Rice, and Tulane are still in the league, I like our chances head-to-head with ULL.

They are also doing a good job promoting themselves as UL and "LOUISIANA"........
Personally, I hope both Tech and the CAJUNS get into CUSA one day.

You obviously aren't factoring in the food quality in Lafayette.

CUSA folks are concerned about market size and commitment to spend money. Ulala has us beat in the market size department unless we show some presence in Shreveport. Thank goodness that we are catching up in the spending department.

Basketball Unit Potential!! That's the ticket to CUSA.:icon_wink: They WILL NOT turn down money.
