Our former Alumni Director hunts out there.......I am thinking hard about getting a lease off 15 somewhere.....easier drive than out to Little Missouri from my house......I drove out there in mid october and there were thousands of geese...even some canadian....I do not know any of the landowners that are just north and south of Hwy 2 anymore....they all sold out.......
I sold my 4 wheeler when I lost my place on Molicy 7 years ago .......how much is a decent one going to cost or should I go with one of those mule things?
The upkeep/maintenance on a mule is outrageous. Much better off with a good Honda 4 wheeler..they don't get stuck easy and run FOREVER. The blinds on Woodlands run around $2000-$3000 annual per dude or so ($10,000 per blind or thereabouts). That's why I mostly hunt timber around Shrevesburgh and only hunt with the rich dudes (my tightwad dad actually spends money on birds) every now and again. I did the math on how many times I actually get to hunt two days ina row (I own my own small business) and I would come out way ahead by going on 2-3 paid hunts per year than owning a share in a Monroe pit blind and the guides, cooks, bird-pickers do all the work. When I was younger I had a tunnel boat with a pop-up blind and had great success hunting Toledo Bend, Darbonne, Clear Lake, and the Red River(right after they put in the locks and dams).

It will be interesting to see how this front did on pushing some ducks down. I know nothing is frozen up in upper Arkansas and Missouri yet, but we haven't had a true Alberta clipper this early in a looooong time. Hopefully we'll have a great second split.
Yesterday was my boy first "real" duck hunt. I think he's hooked. the count was 9 wood ducks, 2 greys and a teal between the 3 adults. I have never, and i mean NEVER seen as many wood ducks in one hole as what i saw yesterday.
Awesome Chou! Simply awesome! I'd say your boy is definitely hooked... he couldn't smile any wider if he tried.

Great hunt Chou.! Wish we had had some woodies to shoot at yesterday. Saw lots of ducks, but most wouldn't work. Too much water is my guess. 75% of NE La. ag land has water standing on it after all the rain last week.
Make that boy some duck balls up. I can almost taste them now.:icon_wink:
Duck balls:
Cut the duck into small pieces, just large enough to wrap them with cream cheese and a jalpeno. Wrap with bacon and secure with a toothpick. Throw them on the grill and when the bacon looks done (slightly charred) they are ready.
The wood ducks and teal are really the best tasting. Also, you want to make sure that you put the duck breasts in some water for a while to drain some of the blood. That will take a lot of the game taste out. Then put into a marinade for a while. All this before you make the wraps, obviously. This will also help your fried duck taste a lot better.
We should probably start another thread titled "Hunting One Liners", but I had to share one that I heard this morning. I called a hunting buddy of mine to get a weekend report. Turns out he was actually in the blind when I called him...all alone. He described the blind to me. It is a pit blind- 8ft wide x 22ft. long. HUGE! He says,
"Yep, I got it all to myself. I feel like I'm in Malone Stadium up in here."
Duck Balls? Never killed a duck with balls big enough to mess with cookin'.:icon_wink:
