    Miami OC Job

OK guys, so according to footballscoop.com the U is looking at your coordinator (see below). What's the poop on this guy? Spread offense or traditional? What kind of experience? Can he develop QB's or I guess better yet does he even coach QB's? Any insight?

Miami: Our sources tell us that head coach Randy Shannon has spoken with LA Tech offensive coordinator Frank Scelfo. We were told again that Shannon is not targeting Texas Tech offensive coordinator Dana Holgerson, as many reports have suggested

    Personal opinion:

I am not impressed with Sceflo. We had only 9 TD passes in 13 games this season. I think Tim Rattay once had that many in one game! Tech won this year (8-5) because of defense and special teams. The offense was mostly a liability. I hope Shannon hires him.

Let me add, our OL and RBs did a great job. It's a tribute to them they were successful at all, given opposing defenses didn't have to worry about the pass.

Traditional. His rep is as a spread guy, but we don't run it, likely due to personnel.

    He also coaches quarterbacks, yes.

He had a good history from Tulane but our offense hasn't been able to execute through the air.

We've had better playcalling this year, than last - imo.

Frank coached and developed Shaun King at Tulane as QB coach. He also was the coordinator for Patrick Ramsey and J.P. Losman, both first round draft picks.

Lester Ricard at Tulane made the Jaguars' practice squad. Ricard regressed from his sophomore to senior season. Part of that may be blamed on Hurricane Katrina.

Either way, Scelfo is a decent coach. His offense really doesn't mesh here with Dooley's concept. I'm really not sure why Dooley got a guy who helped develop the spread under Rich Rodriguez to run a running-game based offense. When Scelfo had success, he ran the spread that focused on passing first.

It is interesting to note that Matt Forte didn't develop until Scelfo was gone. However, Mewelde Moore (now with the Steelers) did great under Scelfo.

The QB Miami has now reminds me of King, so it may be a good find for Miami. Besides, in my opinion, we need a different coach with our skill set on our roster.

More or less. Sometimes the occasional tidbit comes through though.

The site does have legitimate contacts with a TON of coaches.
