I don't know if this is in line with your intent for this thread, but this is where I felt led.

(1.) In history, has an incumbant president ever failed to receive the nomination from his own party for a second term?

(2.) Is it possible that a line in the SAND of the "left" could be forming that would leave the moderates on one side (near the middle) while the "extreme" liberals attempt to organize their special interest groups into some definable platform on the other side of the line?

Re: “People Are Talking About ‘President Pelosi’ Now”

Don't know how true this is. I got it in an email.

So this is how it works!

We Thought only the state of Illinois was corrupt.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's home district
    includes San Francisco .
Star-Kist Tuna' s headquarters are in San Francisco, Pelosi's home district.
Star-Kist is owned by Del Monte Foods and is a major Contributor to Pelosi.
Star-Kist is the major employer in American Samoa employing 75% of the Samoan work force.
Paul Pelosi, Nancy's husband, owns $17 million dollars of Star-Kist stock.
In January, 2007 when the minimum wage was increased from $5.15 to $7.25, Pelosi had American Samoa exempted from the increase so Del Monte would not have to pay the higher wage.
This would make Del Monte 20 products less expensive than their Competitions. Last week when the huge bailout bill was passed, Pelosi added an earmark to the final bill adding $33 million dollars for an Economic development credit in American Samoa.
Pelosi has called the Bush Administration CORRUPT

Re: “People Are Talking About ‘President Pelosi’ Now”

A noted psychiatrist was a guest speaker at an academic function where Nancy Pelosi happened to appear. Ms Pelosi took the opportunity to schmooze the good doctor a bit and asked him a question with which he was most at ease.

'Would you mind telling me, Doctor,' she asked, 'how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?'

'Nothing is easier,' he replied. 'You ask a simple question which anyone should answer with no trouble. If the person hesitates, that puts you on the track.'

'What sort of question?' asked Pelosi.

Well, you might ask, 'Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one?''

Pelosi thought for a moment, and then said with a nervous laugh, 'You wouldn't happen to have another example would you? I must confess I don't know much about history.'

Re: “People Are Talking About ‘President Pelosi’ Now”

Like I said before, the democrats would be smart to dump Pelosi as Speaker of the House. (But whoever said that he democrats were smart?) The fact that she did not come up with a decent stimulus package from the git-go means no long-range political smarts. One of her major problem is that her seat is safe and she never worries about re-election. Frankly, she is no match against the Minority Leader in terms of making the right political moves. Harry Reid is not much better. Obama will probably have a harder time controlling those 2 democrats than he will the republicans.
