    Ronald Reagan

There has been a lot of talk that President Ronald Reagan was a great President. I am finding it hard to find facts that prove this. So, since many of you on this board are republicans or conservatives (These two terms are no longer the same thing IMO) I would ask if you could explain what made Reagan a great president. What I have found is that Reagan lowered taxes and increased govt spending during a recession. It was proven that revenue increased during the time period of these tax cuts however govt spending increased at a faster pace than govt revenue.

I am betting you're just rattling our proverbial chains, and that you do in fact realize how utterly ludicrous these questions are. Ronald Reagan was one of the gratest Americans with which God ever graced this planet.

Here are a couple of my favorites of Reagans hundreds of great feats:

    (A) Ended the the USSR without firing a shot by simply showing that US technology could trump anything that they could ever come up with in the arms race. And that their entire economy would be eroded away if they even tried.

    (B) The Iranians had taken US citizens hostage in the fall of 1979 and our inept "p_ _sy" administration was unable (by diplomacy {similar to Obama's groveling last week}) to beg their release. The Iranians let the hostages go in January 1981 at the very moment Reagan was being sworn in as President. He had accomplished more as a President-elect (with no executive power) than Carter was able to do in 14 months with full power.

Some of you may recall the excellent Hurrah-for-the-Shaun party held at the Charleston Square Apartments near campus on Barnet Springs Road during those first fateful days of the crisis. :icon_wink:

When Reagan took over it was 20.76 when he left it was 9.57. Life was far better for far more Americans after he became president.

    Re: Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan was a very popular President. Still is. I would say that he was a great President when compared to Nixon, Ford, Carter, Bush Sr., Clinton, and Bush Jr. because even though he made mistakes he recognized them for what they were. His greatness was in his character and not so much in his politics.

Just my humble and honest opinion.

"The Great Communicator." Reagan was bashed by the liberal media just like Bush. They said he was old and senial. He went right past them and appealed to the people through press conferences and national TV appearances. They tried their hardest to make him look stupid, but the public never bought it. This was the major difference between he and Bush. In today's media, a Republican has to overcome the media, and Reagan was able to do it. (They still hate his guts).

All true, but the power of the media today is far greater than it was 25-30 years ago. I'm also convinced that there are lots more sheep voting now than there were back then.

It's true that we are becoming dumber and dumber as a nation. But someone with American principles and communication skills can overcome the ignorance of our nation... just like Reagan did. He turned us from a dark and gloomy socialist-heading country to the "shining city on the hill" in just 8 years. It can happen again, but I think today, Americans demand Socialism more than that did in Reagan's era.

Nah, most Rush listeners who are conservative know how to think on their own. He is annoying, but he is an entertainer first. It is a shame the the leaders of the Republican party don't follow his line of thinking, which matches well with Reagan's, instead of constantly moving to the center.

BTW, I don't care much for Hannity's new show since Combs isn't there to whip up on anymore.

    Ronaldo Maximus, The Great!

Right leader at the right time.

His character and integrity are beyond reproach. He motivated this nation to rally from a deep hole. The American people did it. It was average Americans that picked this nation up by the boot straps, but we needed a leader we could believe in. Reagan gave us confidence again.

He stood up to the Soviet bully. And, because many of our enemies thought he was nuts, like a crazed cowboy, they were afraid to try him.

    The 1980's were awesome!

Bravo! The 80s where awsome. Even the music seemed better than at any other time. Who could forget the very first song on MTV: Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles. Then there was: Journey, Asia, REO Speedwagon, Supertramp, Boston, Survivor, Blondie (reminds me of Fargos), 38 Special, Air Supply, Bangles, Van Halen, TOTO, Go-Go's, Pat Benetar, The Clash, Rush, Night Ranger, Foreigner (reminds me of Jenkins-McFarland dorms), Sammy Hagar {Cabo Wabbo}, Heart, Loverboy, Police, U2, etc. Sorry, I got carried away. I think I could name several more if I had to. We had some great concerts in the old gym. And the Lady Techsters were the heat. Remember Kim Mulkey's corvette? God times.

Reagan single-handedly ended the Cold War, leading to the downfall of communist Russia and the ultimate obliteration of the Berlin Wall. He made the world safer and helped bring democracy to millions. He took us from a time when our citizens were embarrassed to be Americans to being proud to be Americans.

One of the most world-changing speeches of all time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjWDrTXMgF8

For those who were too young to remember Reagan, this typifies his charm and likability: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X39dG...eature=related

Ronald Reagan didn't single-handedly end the cold war. That's a republican myth that has no basis in fact. He was President when the cold war ended but the truth of the matter is that communism is a totally worthless piece of shit that collapsed under its own bloated mismanagement. Truman and Eisenhower had much more to do with the collapse of the Soviet Union than did Ronald Reagan.

I didn't realize they got rid of him. I will have to check it out now- I HATED Combs on there! Good ridance!

Hands down Reagan was the best in my lifetime- so far I think he will have nothing to worry about from the current one in power- Jimmy may for taking his title as the worst though.
