The problem with your point is that they vote representative of the MAJORITY. They do not represent the beliefs of all the people in their region. You act like a congressman that wins an election by 1 represents a people that share 100% of his views and beliefs...as if he represents 100% of those people's views and beliefs. THAT is the point of that map. THAT is why you can have congressional demographics such as they are. You act like majority means totality.

Now, does it matter when it comes to voting? No. But does it matter relevant to this conversation? Absolutely.

You wrote that first sentence perfectly describing yourself.

Re: Obama - Worst President Ever

Looking at a pictorial representation of a phenomenon it is hard to make generalizations. There were several factors in this election that did not follow the normal precedent. There were large numbers of people that voted that typically do not vote (younger adults and minorities specifically). There was a continuation of the anti-Republican backlash that started in 2006.

I think it will not be until the 2014/16 elections until you would be able to say the Republicans are a regional party. By then the moderate/independent voters that voted against McCain and the Republicans will be more likely to vote Republican. I think a lot of those House seats that have been lost by the Republicans in the last two election cycles will return to them. I do not have the numbers, but I remember reading that a large number of the Democrats elected to the house (in 2006, esp) were more moderate. The problem is when they come to an issue they will side with the Dems. In the 2010 election, the Republicans will regain several seats (ten?) that have been lost in the last 2 elections (mainly a knee-jerk reaction to the rampant liberalism from Congress now).

Another issue that is going to affect the 2012/2014 elections will be redistricting. The South will gain more seats, and the Northeast will loose seats. That will affect the D/R makeup in the House.

I like the insult. You're getting better at this. Anyway, I believe the point of showing all this is that YOU said the Republican party is now a "regional party." "Regional" represents area and not people.

I recently finished Malcolm Gladwell's hit, Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking. Normally, I would say that you can't responsibly start a thread like this one, specifically with this title, and be taken seriously, before his first hundred days are up.

Now that I have read this book, I take it back. It just might be true.

Have you also read The Tipping Point? Outliers?

Some people call it "intuition" but I think it is just experience-enabled judgment.

    I like that.

Sometimes someone will challenge an opinion with "well, how do you know, have you ever________ (fill in the blank)?"

I've never been run over by a bus, but I have a pretty good idea what will happen if that should occur! Some things don't have to be personally experienced.

Centralized policy-making and control has never worked, not in the entire history of mankind! And by "worked" I mean so that it allows people to enjoy those rights of individual freedom and liberty conveyed unto us by the Creator. A complete lassez faire system, one without constraints, hasn't worked either. Although Hong Kong, pre-1997, came pretty damn close! That place was awesome (and still mostly is)!

We need minimal government and centralized control. There's a term in economics for it. Have to look it up. But it essentially means some things must be a combined effort. Best example is protecting people from nuclear attack. Either we are ALL protected, or no one is. Through that economic principle, such protection can NOT be privatized. As in subscribing to a paid service.

Anyway, all of this is to say that socialism does not and cannot work, and Obama will fail miserably if he continues down this extreme leftist path. Unfortunately, this failure will also do great harm to this country and the American people, in the meantime.

As the political winds tend to shift quite dramatically from one extreme to another. Maybe the American people will rebel against socialism by swinging all the way to libertarianism!

Actually, I think he wrote the first sentence exactly opposite of his belief. He can't see the trees from the forest.

I also tend to disagree with the statement that the politician represents the people. He/she may be elected by the people but my opinion is must politicians represent their party, special interest group, or their own agenda without regard to the people until it comes time for re-election. I believe this of both the majority of Democrats and Republicans.

... and I love people who ignore FACTS. You said it is a regional or southern party. The facts simply point out that you are wrong. Accept it or not, I don't give a poo. I was actually talking to daybreaker since he actually passes the Turing test.

I'll waste a minute explaining this. You said: "They are now a meaningless regional party." I posted two maps that used factual information disproving that statement. It simply is not regional. The facts clearly show the opposite. It's absurd to think that the sole major opposition party is meaningless unless you actually want a one party system, so I didn't address that...

And also... not seeing the forest for the trees??? I don't think you know what that means. I posted "the big picture". A map of the entire country... You talked about Wyoming. In this context, the state or district would be the tree and the nation would be the forest.

Are you really a Louisiana Tech graduate? (I'm not just saying that because you are liberal.... I have serious doubts about you. You still haven't passed the Turing test with 453 attempts at it.)

Sounds to me like theyre actually REGULATING who gets money and MAKING SURE they arent just taking it and running, unlike W's plan to just throw $700bil at the banks and let them do whatever they want with it. You mean Obama wants to make sure the banks will act RESPONSIBLY with tax payer money??? HEAVENS NO!!!!

So, in your opinion, how much responsibility does Congress deserve for that $700bil?

are you suggesting that teatech is simply a sophisticated computer program designed to spit out liberal talking points based on key word triggers?

Nah. In a classic Turing test there are two different black boxes (one containing a human, the other a machine) that answer questions in natural language. In teatech's case, I have seen chat bots exhibit significantly more convincing responses. It's more like saying that teatech does not pass a simple test for human intelligence when compared to modern AIs.

But maybe you are right... He tends to pick out a word or two and then write semi-related responses that never address the original post... I think I'll start to refer to him as TrollBot69.
