The coach needs to draw a 120 mile circle around Ruston and get those local players!!!

Re: Tennis serves turn cold at home - Tech Talk

Tech has the very worst reputation for tennis there is. The worst. We have been changing tennis coaches every year. We even hired a fired basketball coach to be the tennis coach one year. Also, we had the worst possible facilities. We pay our coach next to nothing.

Recruiting locally is not the answer. There are very few local USTA players qualified to play college tennis. Texas, Florida California, Georgia and the Carolinas are where the recurits are. If there happens to be a USTA juniors player anywhere near us qualified to play tennis, they will not choose Tech.

The problem is that our reputation is not bounded by the oceans either. If you call Bulgaria, they already know.

With the current commitment to tennis, we are whistling Dixie. I still contend that the work and money it would take to get us even mediocre again would be too much. I can't understand why we don 't scrap tennis and add golf. We could get a great reputation quickly with that.

The current coach seems to be working very hard in recruiting and in training. As far as I know, he is the first USTA certified coach at Tech since at least 1991. The players are working out in the gym early every morning. However, he is facing a hefty head wind. I think if Quinton would stay, he could turn this around. I just can't imagine why he would stay.
It's time to close the doors to the Temple of Janus.
