All I had for economics is Blackstock. He is my favorite professor I have had at Tech even though I am not an Econ student. If you think he doesn't show favor towards a certain viewpoint then you are a blithering idiot. I had Bennett for finance and his conservative view was pretty obvious as well.

Thank you. Blackstock is the professor I was referring too. He gave our class a link to http://www.mises.org so I think it's no secret where he stands.

    Re: Econ 101

Once upon a time a man appeared in a village and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each.

The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them.
The man bought thousands at $10 and, as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He next announced that he would now buy monkeys at $20 each. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.
Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so scarce it was an effort to even find a monkey, let alone catch it!

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50 each! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would buy on his behalf. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers: "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has already collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each."
The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys for 700 billion dollars.
They never saw the man or his assistant again, only lots and lots of monkeys!

Now you have a better understanding of how the
    WALL STREET BAILOUT PLAN
    WILL WORK !!!!

It doesn't get much clearer than this................

Perhaps you're the idiot for thinking that the guy is showing favor toward a particular theory. I assure you, the professors do not show favor, they TEACH all theories. Period. I had Marc Chopin who was considered the best economics teacher at Tech. He taught economics. He did not try to brainwash his students.

    Ok. You are an idiot.
Im sure Chopin didnt show favortism. I dont know. I wasnt there.

I had Blackstock as well. And while he taught many different views and we were of course allowed to form our own opinion, he definitley let us know what theory he favored.
AND, he usually spent much more time with this foavored theory becuase his enthusiasm usually sparked interest and discussion in class.

How can you say that Tech teachers dont favor a theory when 2 people that took Blackstock said he did?
    Is this a big deal?

    Re: Econ 101

The only statement that I think was miswritten in this article was this one near the bottom:

"While Americans still want all the things they wanted years ago, they have made the rational choice that they can no longer afford to buy at the same levels they once did."

IMO, it should have been written this way:

"While Americans still want all the things they wanted years ago, they can no longer afford to buy at the same levels they once did due to the fact that the credit market has dried up due to a severe reality check to the uninformed investor which has been forced to opened their eyes even thought they still do not completely understand what is happening. As a result domestic and foreign investors and will no longer be duped into loning money to people that they cannot pay back."

Gee dawg80, I couldn't do that now that I have grown accustomed to your ulgy mutt. Besides, I don't have any affection for "the Beach" these days, just a historical footnote in my life story. In fact, I don't even know if they have a forum like this.

Besides, I'm a member of the Blonde Bomber Board and you're not. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I don't smoke anything, never have. I don't do drugs either, never have. Obviously your brain got fried along the line and that's why you're a silly lib today.

I have a Louisiana Tech diploma, and you don't. You need to put something in your pipe and smoke that!

Blackstock was one of my favorite professors at Tech. His class was always so interesting.

Economics is a social science, hard not to let your views come out. At Rice, I had professor Paye, someone who could not be more of a free market liberal in a classical sense (conservative in today's view). He presented all sides well, but he would always come back to his main point that free markets are much better (he would basically find a way to shoot holes in any government involvement view from students).

That being said, Dr. Darrat was one of the best teachers I ever had in all my years of schooling. Not only had he been published many times in journals, he was very dynamic in the classroom. He did an outstanding job of staying unbiased, and I had no idea what his views were from his class. I dont know if he is still at Tech, but I feel bad for those who did not get to experience his classes. I had him for 2 separate classes while I was there.

Also, on the flip side at Rice, you get plenty of bits and snippits from professors teaching all sorts of different subjects about their liberal views: war bashing, Obama lovers, etc. It happens everywhere, especially when you go to these high priced private institutions. Of course, teatech probably wouldnt be biching if our professors were tree hugging socialist, he is just mad that they are biased toward the correct view of laissez-faire, like any economist with half a brain would believe.
