Yes, the testing has begun. Did anyone else notice that the Chinese harrassed one of our ships in open ocean last weekend? Kind of like they did right after Bush took office with the EP-3 incident. We are sending a DDG-51 class destroyer to escort the Impeccable during the rest of her mission.

It's no secret, the whole world knows this - when there is a Democrat that is President, big cuts in money to the military happens, which means nothing new and nothing to replace the old (did you know they still handout VIETNAM era equipment as standard issue?)... Add what the economy is now, and a bunch of other factors that are just bullshit, now is the time for them to try and play catch-up... keyword:try.

lol. They *still* hand out Vietnam era equipment. Guess what that means DIDNT happen from 2000-2008. If you guessed "Warhawk President with Republican Majority DIDNT replace Vietnam era equipment either" you are correct! But then again, maybe that doesnt help my case, because we all knew W was an empty suit.

I have to agree with some of the cuts. Being Navy, I am familiar with the DDG 1000 and LCS programs. There is serious doubt in my mind that they will do what they are supposed to do. We are spending tons on the two programs and both are way over budget, even if looked at over the life-cycle of the programs. DDG-1000 is fine as a technology demonstrator (but let's cap the program at two ships) for future ships, and there are other, proven designs for the LCS that do the same missions and cost way less. Unfortunately, the other designs are foreign (Sweden, Norway, Germany, etc.) and we are very hesitant to buy a foreign design, even if we build them here.

But yes, the typical Democrat response to defense is slash and burn. Hopefully, Gates will moderate the cuts and focus them on programs that will not help the country in the long run.
