I find that hard to believe. It just doesn't make sense.

Neither as effective or as timely. Waterboard the hell out of them! If the Obamasiah won't allow it, send them to Croatia and do it there.

Severe mental suffering can be brought about by feeling as if you are about to die. Or putting an insect in a small holding cell where a person has a morbid fear of insects.
So, we need account for everyone's phobias. Putting someone who is claustraphobic in a small jail cell would be torture then. I know, let's cuddle up with them and see if they will give us answers. Or, do like db3 says and just simply ask, I am sure they will tell us.

Yes, thats EXACTLY Ali Soufan meant when he said traditional tactics were just as, if not more, effective than waterboarding.

Interrogation is a psychological process. Given time, it will produce results superior to torture. Now, if you only have an half hour.......

24 is fictional. There will not be a scenario where we only have 30 minutes to interrogate a terrorist to stop an attack. If so, the intelligence community has failed at a much more fundamental level.

Combine this with the reports that they ramped up these interrogation techniques in order to coerce them to give information linking Iraq to al-qaeda just to justify their invasion, and you have all the makings of illegal torture purely for political gain. Not for national protection.

If it was for national protection from an "imminent" threat, why did it take FOUR MONTHS to get the go ahead to waterboard Zubaydah?

So you can pretend like there was a real life Jack Bauer scenario, but ALL the evidence is pointing to Cheney authorizing "enhanced" interrogation purely for political posturing to get the Iraq War approved. Yep. Way to keep us safe- incite violence in a region that has no threat to us, and take troops AWAY from the front that is combating ACTUAL terrorists.

    Real smart.
It took 4 months to interrogate Zubaydah because he was critically injured (gut shot) when he was captured. I'm sure they could have poured alcohol in his wounds if they really wanted information quickly.... but they didn't. They nursed him back to health and then "tortured" him.

I can't find anything out there that states we went into Iraq based on what the terrorists told us. Help me out. Where are you getting that information from?

If we would have gone into Iraq based on what the terrorists told us then we would have had a much more legitimate reason for invading.

I've never watched an episode of 24, you dumb shit. That is what happened with Khlaid Sheik Mohammed.

If you don't have the stomach for it, go take some Midol. Some people need to be waterboarded. We're not talking about torturing John McCain to get him to say bad things about the USA. We're talking about waterboarding a terrorist who knows where his friends are and what they are about to do.

No, what happened was, we stopped an attack in 2002, and then didnt even know what had been stopped until 2003, when KSM told us after being interrogated.

Interrogation didnt stop any planes from being flown into buildings. That had already been stopped. All interrogation did was tell us the details of WHAT we stopped.

So the information was not urgent, nor was there an "imminent" threat.

Please quit misleading the good people of Latechbbb.

Then-CIA director George Tenet, in his 2007 memoir, says that tough interrogation of al-Qaeda members — and documents found on them, he is careful to add — thwarted more than 20 plots "against U.S. infrastructure targets, including communications nodes, nuclear power plants, dams, bridges, and tunnels." A "future airborne attack on America's West Coast" was likely foiled only because the CIA didn't have "to treat KSM like a white collar criminal."

Re: Obama Won't Rule Out Prosecuting Bush Officials

Saw this in a response to an article about Nancy Pelosi at first knowing about waterboarding and now arguing that she really didn't....

So let me get this right. Obama has ordered the killing of teenage pirates and authorized military strikes on dozens or more of suspected terrorists leaving them dead or maimed, and that's fine with everyone. But we dunk some captured terrorists and get some water up their nose (that leads to savings American lives) and everyone is screaming and Pelosi and other politicians are running for cover and lying about what/when they knew? What is wrong with this picture? Have we gone crazy? With this kind of cowardice from our so-called leaders it won't we long until we're hit again. Sad that our country has deteriorated so far in such a short time.
