One of my favorite pet peeves
ANNUAL
Do not use the term "first annual." An event cannot be described as
annual until it has been held in at least two successive years.
It's about branding, not about mailing a letter. Besides, if good grammar were of primary concern, our official name would not include an unpunctuated abbreviation.
I, for one, LIKE the "La" Tech thing, as it means "the" in both French and Spanish, subtly suggesting that we are THE Tech.
Bah, I'm just out of my 20s and I remember being told in school that state abbreviations were punctuated. L.A., T.X., etc...
...and I remember specifically when I was 10 years old, my dad had ordered me a football from some sales club he sold for, and the moron at the post office where it was shipped saw Winnfield, L.A. and thought it was Los Angeles... Not kidding, it went out to L.A. even with Winnfield's zip code on the package.
Moral of the story is that there are some people out there that might think it is Los Angeles Tech University located in Ruston, Los Angeles...
